  1. Im buliding a HL 500 replica and this is the fuel tank as its being made, I have been side tracked a bit as i was researching forging conrods and rekindled an interest in knife making. I really like cable and pattern welded blades but as it happens i have come across a Massey inslise 2CWT power hammer which will be good i think to try to forge the conrod for the bike engine. I could buy one but its most of the fun is in the making and learning of the process and I am an engineer and this helps keep it fresh and challenging so it is sort of related to forging, My hammer is not installed yet but hope to start soon.
  2. I am a welder by trade and have been doing for longer than I like to think,I used to use alot of CRC Brakeclean for degreasing aluminum for Tig welding till I realised that it breaks down with ultaviolet light even the stuff that has evaporated into the atmosphere of your workshop so please dont use this when welding is nearby. I now use Wurth brakeclean which is some type of alcohol which is safe. These brands may not apply except in Australia and new Zealand Cheers
  3. Hello Justin

    Thanks for your reply

I am pretty much doing all you suggest it is a project that will probably take a year to complete though sooner would be better, I have to keep working for money as wife keeps wasting it on food and soap and stuff like that Cheers Beaver

  4. Cheers for that Phil

I think I will make foundations bigger than that better much too big than small, dont want to upset neighbours though they are a distance away. Just one question is the cylinder lubricator manually operated or vacum operated and pump for priming. I am trying to find a source for fabreeka but will probably end up using Jara railway sleepers Thank you, Beaver

  5. Hey there Phil

Just worked out how to message you directly, I would like to know what is required to make my foundation as far as construction and size or mass req shock, absorber system either wood or fabreca. I would think the witness mark on the tupp and body is the lowest point that the tupp should go down and lubrication requirments I had replied to your coment but its on my message board cheers Beaver

  6. Hello Phil I was after the details of foundation construction and operating/lubrication info. I beleive that its best to have the machine mounted on top of at least 6 cu metres of concrete and I want to mount it at a better height for me as im 6 ft and I would be like a hunchback with a slipped disc in no time if i dont. It was mounted sort of cast into concrete with old railway sleepers under the anvil cast into the conc as well, I dont think it was installed correctly but still took me 6.5 hrs to free it from that concrete with a jack hammer. Cheers Beaver
  7. Hi Guys I have recently prurchased a 2CWT massey hammer complete with motor and anvils and have been in contact with john at massey hammers but have not been able to recontact The Serial or manufacture No is REP 4348. It appears to be in very good order with no real apparent wear but could not be run when i brought it so is a bit of a punt but should be nothing i cant fix. I am after any info on installing my machine so i can start planing what I need and how correctly lube and run it Cheers for any help, Beaver from New Zealand
