  1. Only good part of that machine are the dies....to bad they don't line up. But Hey, you you can fuller and spred at the same time...just flip the piece:D
  2. Depending on what kind of cutting. I've done it and its OK for now. Blade teeth per inch and pitch become more important at higher speeds also the feed rate of the stock. Overheating the blade is the biggest issue. Wax lubricant is very helpfull for that. I'm assuming you will be using it for flat stock and not big bar stock? As mentioned above, bearing guides are almost essential. The rub guides are junk but work in a pinch.
  3. Zarcon- Glad to see we didn't scare you off. Your bio was a pleasure to read. Thank you for that! I truely hope we hear more from you with regard to apprenticship, projects and what ever you feel like sharing. Definatly joint BABA and look high and low for a shop to just hang out in. Sometimes asking for a job isn't enough. You have to create it and take it. I've done that in a few places I new I needed to work because of the projects they had going. Made myself indespencable:) Good luck!
  4. Welcome!!! Nice work! Yes, please explain the handle tar sand trick. I've started using glue (sika flex) because wedges come loose with seasonal humidty changes aound here.
  5. Nice work Brian! I hope you are saving all this for future teaching possibilities. You have lots to share... Look forward to seeing you in Plaserville
  6. you put it in your gas tank to absorb water from the fuel. Keeps the lines from freezing...
  7. I think you'll have to send it to me so I can find a name on it and verify its shape and usability....
  8. Yeh, I tried that and my screen went black....I guess I found what I was supposed to:rolleyes:
  9. I want to butt join some copper size is 1/4" X 5/16"
  10. Hay, guess what... I found my stuff, you should see it!!!! Its sooo coool. I searched under lost in the bone yard:D
  11. You may want to check your anvil for cracks as I'm sure they hit it with water while putting out the fire... Sorry for your loss:( Hope fro a speedy recovery:) Run from the insurance guy. Anyone who comes up on scene un-solicited using scair tactics is a scammer....
  12. What do you guys think of the piece I made the other day? It in Grass Valley, if you get a chance:D
  13. I used to go to many other forums too...Still do on occasion but I find this one to be more of what I'm looking for.:D Thanks Glen for being such a good admin. and putting this site together:)
  14. VERY nice work! Muratic acid and bleach huh, I've used muratic and vinegar fro a deeper red. Do you put the bleach on and leave it?
  15. Zarc- Don't be offended. Everyone who replied has loads of good info, even if it was highly critical about your post. You, in essesence had submitted a job application. That was your submission to the world asking for an apprentice-ship. It should have been polished thats all. I simpathize with your struggle on spelling and punctuation...Spell check is my friend and the computer has been my hero. I never wrote a thing until I could easily delete my mistakes... and I don't get them all by any means:) I think you will find this forum to be very informative and I'm sure ther are things you can add. As with any endevor... Practice and patiants

  16. My dad has Parkinson's. There can't be anything worse than watching a loved one deteriorate in such a degenerative way. My mother passed from cancer a few years back. Every morning when I open my eyes, I thank all that there is for my life and health! I feel deeply for Sid and his family, that kind of lose is huge.
  17. Look forward to seeing it done! I like the shape, good lines:) Was that all hammer and hand work?
  18. Zarcon- I suffer from what Ted T. suffers from. I believe they call it dyslexia (sp)?. I spend way to much time rewriting my posts so the spelling and puntuation is the best I can do without being obsesive. Its not always perfect but at least I've tried. If I read your post, I would think this is a person who won't take the time to do it right. Therefore, I wouldn't consider hiring them without more examples of there work and ability to communicate. Zarcon, You have received some harsh critisism here, I hope you use it for what its ment to be...Helpful!!! Good luck to you!
  19. Oh boy, sounds like politics! The old "us" and "them" thing is sooo boring!
  20. Frosty- Nice to see some of your work! And darn pretty to boot! Sounds like your getting it trained to come around to your way of thinking... Good on ya!!
  21. I too have looked at the hammer tutorial from Mr Hofi...Sometimes hard to remeber to do, but very helpfull when I do:)
  22. I have a lorance fire pot and have yet to build a table for it.... Of all the fire pots I've seen, this IS THE BEST Period! Very heavy casting and nicely made. My only complaint is the clinker breaker,it is a little weak compaired to the fire pot...No mind, its fabricated... When and if it fails, I'll make a new one:) Realy Glad all you burned was the table and misc. bits....No structure! Sometimes taking the cheap DIY road can be a real hazard, glad you came out with good knowlage and no major loss. Sometimes that kind of experiance can be very expensive:o If you still (I don't recomend it) want a refractory fire pot, use 1/8" wire 4"x4" or smaller mesh, rebar is way to big. Thanks Brian for the phone number.. I've been looking for him:)
