    New Bowie knife

Thanks, I am not left handed just a little bad at laying out patterns. I need to finish the right hand holster still
  2. Hello all I just finished up a new Bowie knife. It was forged from 1085 carbon steel. The pommel and cross guard were forged from 1018 with an antler handle. The blade is 8 1/4" long with a overall length of 14".
  3. Nice. I am a few miles away from changing my chain may have to try that set up out
  4. Very cool axe. Leaf springs are a bear to forge good job
  5. I still have a 10'X25' weld shop that I keep most of the big machines and grinders in. Hopefully I won't run out of room for a bit. But you are right if you have room a tool gets put there. But the shop cost me my tool budget for the year so I will be fine till next year ;) And Neg. That's one nice shop
  6. Just put a lot of beeswax on it hid all the imperfections on mine ;)
  7. I have vents in the roofline and one window on the side. Do you get too much light with the skylight ? And I may need to build the kid a shop so I don't get in her way ;) And yes that is a NC knife maker forge. It's nice but I am thinking of turning into a single burner to save fuel. The two heat zones seem to be a waste.
  8. Thanks. And she is already staking out a spot for her little anvil. Maybe I can add a wing for her later
  9. I am putting the finishing touches on my new shop. It's 10'X12' with 6'X8' double doors. What a change from working in the driveway. No more hour set up and breakdown time just open the doors turn on the forge and go
  10. Have you looked into the Nimba centurion ? I love mine. The ring is not bad and it moves metal well. Shipping freight was not expensive at all
  11. That looks good. The last time I tried one like that it was a complete failure. After seeing yours I may have to try again. Nice work
  12. I just finished my first forged axe. I used a 1"X1"X6" peice of square stock (1045). Upset one end drifted the other then I beat it unmercifully. I hope to start another one soon and apply what I learned on this one to make the next one better.
  13. It's a little heavy but I made this out of 1/4" round with 3/8" for the top and bottom.
  14. Not bad. I tested my first couple of blades to destruction. One way to find out if your heat treating worked. Although it does suck to put a lot of energy into something just to watch it break but that's how I found out that I wasn't tempering well enough
  15. You should look into a propane forge. It makes for happier neighbors, coal fires have a smell that not everyone likes. Propane and a lot of chains and magnets on my anvil keep my neighbors ignoring all my banging around in north Oakland
  16. good stuff I like the shape.

    New knife

Thanks, the horse radish you dab onto the blade and wait an hour, wash it off and repeat a couple of times. It gives it a black finish and an old look. And the coil on the end balances the blade. The blade and the handle are the same length and I tapered the end of the handle to make the coil so it balances the blade and feels good in the hand.

    New knife

just finised this one in time for the pirate faire. The blade is 1080 CS with 100 year old oak for the handle and my first sheath. and I put a hourseraddish finish on the blade stinky but fun.
