  1. So I finally finished up with adze's used claw hammers. They aren't as nicely done as nick's fine example above but functional none the less opted to cut the claws because I'm lacking in the tong department for now. Honed to a fairly sharp edge for now one with an inside bevel and one outside.
  2. i have a good bit left and i can get my hand on a couple more of them, i have like 5 feet of over 1 inch spring steel not in a hurry to use it all up just wonderin if theres anything that may be useful i havent even thought of
  3. Looking for ideas of hardy tools or anything useful to forge from a 1 1/4 inch torsion bar just made a cut off hardy (works great) and a light radius swage. Was thinking about a fuller next but wanna know if there's any other ideas of useful stuff I can make out of it to build up my tool collection which is very limited
  4. I forged a hot cut hardy today out of a peice of torsion bar from a pickup and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on heat treating it or if it's a waste of time because the heat it's gonna be seeing cutting.
  5. Lol but I want the big anvil !!! I guess I'll have to find another now!
  6. Haha yup slowly work her up to the big hammers :)
  7. Spent some time breaking in the new brooks 100#er today and taught the girlfriend some basics , but I may be in trouble I think we have a natural! Had her make a couple hooks that came out pretty nice for her first experience with the forge.
  8. LOL come on , 44 degrees its beautiful, still t-shirt weather!
  9. yea i was like a little kid on christmas when he said i could just take it, goin rate for slabs is quite high now, said he he had that and a few more longer ones sitting for like 20 years. could probably work somethin out for a couple more if i offer him some money. so if ya make your way to SE PA with a truck :)
  10. Garbage post removed, Nick, can you please look at what you are posting ???
  11. I'm Hoping the weather is wrong today or changes, and this heavy rain stays as a light rain , try to cover the forge abit keep out as much water as i can and sit the anvil under our deck not high enough to have the forge under there to tho i dont think, dont really wanna burn down the house, small propane unit would come in handy on days like theres though.
  12. So Since its Raining Pretty good in my neck of the woods, and doesnt seem like its gonna stop anytime soon, i have a lovely day off from work, New Anvil to try out and all i dont know how long i can wait. so ill probably be out in the rain later, since i dont have a proper shop to work inside yet. What is the WORSTE WEATHER any of you have been out forging in??
  13. Where could I find some history on them I saw a post on anvil fire about brooks but I wanna know more if it's out there like knowin the history behind the stuff I'm workin with.

  16. Just gotta swap the rr track off the stump might work on making a proper stand for her
  17. Might have some rain tomorrow so I'll be off work since I do landscaping if it's not real bad might try to break her in
  18. There are to many people to complain around me I'm in the suburbs right outside Philly or near a bunch of row homes or I would be out there right now
  19. Yea I'm itching to start hammering away on it.
  20. So after posting in the tailgating section looking for an anvil to upgrade from my rr track anvil on Friday I have come home today with a 100#/ 45 kg brooks anvil that looks like it has never seen a hammer before. Sharp edges that need to be rounded off a hair still has most of its original blue paint. Excited to hammer on it soon! I was wondering if anyone knew any history of Brooks England or if it can be dated I don't see any date marking on it just weight and England. But big thanks to the community for tryin to find me something good.
  21. thats pretty nice , i like the curled up claws, and claw hammers are less useful to me, even if i can get ball peins for really cheap.
  22. Thanks for all the input guys. Haven't started it yet but will probably be my next project
  23. frank you shaped the adze then welded a bit on it, or you welded the bit on the did the shapeing? <script type="text/javascript"> //
  24. Nice andy, i am debating weather or not to just go for it and not worry about srewing up the eye, but i am also pretty new to it and want to get it right Vaughn that makes sense, im looking into some easy designs for making one this weekend, i didnt consider the eye being taper both ways on the hammer before for a drift, so that would work to keeo the eye safe very nicely. and how'd you know i was using a ball peen lol. <script type="text/javascript"> //
