Quick ball pien hawk
I REALLY like that! Hawk are what got me started down this road and seeing what you've accomplished has given me hope. Now I just need to get with it, too many things going on all the time.

Hardy tool help.....
No makers mark that I can see. The material seems pretty soft, I touched up the edges with a file. I'm thinking a fuller is most likely the first stop for this piece. Thanks Guys!

Hardy tool help.....
You are right! What it was doesn't mean that's what it has to be. I haven't tested hardness yet but will do so. I'm probably getting a bit ahead of myself since my forge isn't ready yet, in the mean time I'll be lurking on this site gleaning as much info as I can. I have A LOT to learn! Thanks!

Hardy tool help.....
Welder and grinders I've got and can use them, no working forge yet. My needs are undetermined at this time since I haven't started using it yet. As far as details of the item........ all I know is it fits in the hardy hole and looks a bit flattened out on the edge. My main concern it the hardness of the metal and what grinding will do to it.

Hardy tool help.....
This came with the HB anvil I just bought, not sure what it was designed to do. I'm assuming that the flattened area is from use. Can these be reshaped and what would be the best method to use?

I used my angle grinder with a cup type wire brush. I wasn't sure what to use to keep the rust off till I can start hammering iron so I sprayed it down with WD-40.

Old forge I want to restore and fire up.
Thanks guys! Yeah my welder friend is a master welder, he specializes in cast materials of all kinds. He welds for Precision Castparts, I was pretty lucky.

Old forge I want to restore and fire up.
Well, at this point in time, I'm not sure what I want to do. It's good to know that I should probably make other arrangements for larger forging projects. One thing that got me interested in this stuff was some tomahawks forged from ball peen hammers. Thanks for the input!

Old forge I want to restore and fire up.
Here is an old forge I picked up recently. The main drive gear is missing a few teeth so I've got a welder friend fixing that for me. Should I just reassemble it and use it as is?

Hey there!
I'm in Oregon, I just added some info to my profile.

Hey there!
I found this place while looking for info on my Hay-Budden anvil. I was a big game hunting guide in Montana for a bit, then worked as an armorer and in motor transport for the USMCR. I've worked in machine shops, did a bit of machine work and welding. The last 28 years I've been a communications tech. I just recently bought a Miller MIG welder, was given an Oxy-Ace cutting torch and tanks. I also found an old hand pump rivet forge to restore. My shop is coming together and I'm looking forward to participating in this forum.
