  1. My Way Of Repairing An Anvil Is Different. I Never Pre-heat The Anvil It Is A Long And Tiring Process And Not Eassy To Do. I Have 16 Anvils In My Shop 12 Of Are In The School ,and Every Two Years I Have To Repair Some Of Them Because The Students In The Classes Are Missing Many Times And Hit The Edge Of The Anvil And Damege It Aspeciely When Tapering Steel. I Then Grind The Dameged Corner To The Clean Basic Steel Of The Anvil And Aply Two Layers Of Z 2900 Rod .speciel Rod For Welding ''hard Welding Steels, panzer Steels, leaf Spings, manganeas Steels, tools And Cast Steels, And All The Stainless Steels. The Tensil Of The Rod Is 750-800 N/ Squer Mm Which Is Very Strong And Tough, And What Is Very Importent The Elongation Is 36% This Gives A Very Tough And Elastic Base For The Two Layers Of Hard Surface Rod.and This Is Why You Never Need To Pre-heat. If You Suport It From The Side With An 1/2-3/4'' Flat Bar Of Coper With A Clam Ther Is Very Little Grinding. With Hols Or Cut Or Kracks In The Anvil I Go With The Same Process. Once All The Face Of The Anvil Was Destroied I Then Put It On A Miling Machin And Very Slow Took 1/8'' Off With Tungsten Carbide Tool And After That Repaired The Corners. Hofi
  2. To Whom It May Concern From 1997 Until 2001 4 Years I was the only teacher at the ''ozark school''. I built the school and gave them my teaching system. I forged most of the tools at the school and the process sampling plate too. In this time I tought Mr Klark how to forge The ''Hofi'' Hammer. What he calls to day the ''ozark'' hammer is a varietion of the ''Hofi'' Hammer and not for the good. Hofi

BP1020 How to use the hydraulic press to forge a mushroom (by upsetting) by Uri Hofi My press is 80 ton '' denisson '' English make that i got very cheap 2500$. I upset here 1'' round h13 steel to produce to sizes of round flatters for my punch, fullers, chisels, ball fullers, and flatter set with two locking tongs as handles. The OD of the upsetting will be 1 3/8'' and 1 7/8' od. The product. The set up. Heat even while rotating with a good rosebud. The steel ready and hot. The press down. The finished upset. The face of the press is covered with hard ss to protect the face of the ram from being damaged. In the back you can see red marking needle to be able to adjust the length of the upsetting. In the first size we upset 5/8''. On the second 15/16''. The supporting set. The bottom round plate is mild steel very strate flat. Above it the squeeze plate is quenched steel and grinded flat. The round bushing is made out of mild steel to keep the upset piece up straight. And give me the possibility to hold down and rotate while heating with the rosebud to get a very even heat this is very important. The whole process again on the bigger od. The finished job

BP1019 Riveting a cup on a candle holder stick by Uri Hofi Putting a cup on a candle holder stick is some times a problem I developed a simple system to rivet the cup and I want to demonstrate tonight. The monkey tool and chisel tool. The monkey tool hole is 5,5 mm The chisel hole is 4,5 mm The depth of the holes is 25 mm The tools are made of h13 or s1 steel. The OD of the drilled hole in the chisel is 3/16 inches and in the monkey tool is 7/32 inches. The stick is forged to 7/32-1/4'' OD and then pointed Before and after forging the point. The cup from top and bottom The hole in the cup is 45 mm, or 3/16 OD. Hold the stick in the vise Try the candle cup to see if it fits. Heat the cup with a rose bud torch. Put the cup on the point Set the cup to the point with the monkey tool Hammering light and fast with a small hammer, rotating the monkey tool until you feel the monkey tool is touching the corners of the square point then stop. Dip the chisel in the lube Hammer again while rotating the chisel The square pipe that is welded to the chisel allows you to maintain a good grip while rotating You hammer until the chisel cuts the corners of the square point and rivets the cup. The riveted cup. The riveted stick with the cup The same system can be applied to other places and other dimensions too.
  8. forgot to tel u that for mass production and very heavy steel i use pure tungsten tools .u can see in my bp hofi
  9. Ron All my HOT punchin ,cutting and fullering tools are made from; h13 s1 M4 the most I use h13 all the above steels are air quench u forge the tool and let it cool . some times i cool them in the gas forge and let it cool slow. and some times when i need them harder i cool them under a ventilator. it will make them harder but mor brittle u have to be mor carfull when use. you can use coil spring ,rear exle , 4340, they are not good enough because u''ll have to cool them often . if u can get the exhaust motor ventils they are very good fore driffts hofi
