by Uri Hofi

Putting a cup on a candle holder stick is some times a problem I developed a simple system to rivet the cup and I want to demonstrate tonight.

The monkey tool and chisel tool.

c010.jpg

The monkey tool hole is 5,5 mm The chisel hole is 4,5 mm The depth of the holes is 25 mm The tools are made of h13 or s1 steel.

c030.jpg

The OD of the drilled hole in the chisel is 3/16 inches and in the monkey tool is 7/32 inches.

c009.jpg

The stick is forged to 7/32-1/4'' OD and then pointed Before and after forging the point.

The cup from top and bottom The hole in the cup is 45 mm, or 3/16 OD.

c014.jpg

Hold the stick in the vise Try the candle cup to see if it fits.

c016.jpg

Heat the cup with a rose bud torch.

c019.jpg

Put the cup on the point Set the cup to the point with the monkey tool Hammering light and fast with a small hammer, rotating the monkey tool until you feel the monkey tool is touching the corners of the square point then stop.

c024.jpg

Dip the chisel in the lube Hammer again while rotating the chisel The square pipe that is welded to the chisel allows you to maintain a good grip while rotating You hammer until the chisel cuts the corners of the square point and rivets the cup.
