BP1020 How to use the hydraulic press to forge a mushroom (by upsetting)
by Uri Hofi

My press is 80 ton '' denisson '' English make that i got very cheap 2500$. I upset here 1'' round h13 steel to produce to sizes of round flatters for my punch, fullers, chisels, ball fullers, and flatter set with two locking tongs as handles. The OD of the upsetting will be 1 3/8'' and 1 7/8' od.

The face of the press is covered with hard ss to protect the face of the ram from being damaged. In the back you can see red marking needle to be able to adjust the length of the upsetting. In the first size we upset 5/8''. On the second 15/16''.

The supporting set. The bottom round plate is mild steel very strate flat. Above it the squeeze plate is quenched steel and grinded flat. The round bushing is made out of mild steel to keep the upset piece up straight. And give me the possibility to hold down and rotate while heating with the rosebud to get a very even heat this is very important.
