  1. i really like yr dragon and like someone else said up there i dont think critisisms are being made just interesting objective comments which are always good i reckon. i thought the tongue was fire too! and as for the finished piece thing i agree with mick- you can do whatever you want with your work - thats the joy of it -you can faff about for ever with your dragon if youre still not quite happy. i really like his wings, and would def make him some friends and see how they turn out if you dont want to cut his tongue off!
  2. it was about 3/4 inch i reckon just something i found.. want to try some more copper now i really liked it!

  17. wicked - how nice to have really happy customer - i reckon all the nieghbours are going to want one!
  18. thanks for sharing the work - i love the sunflowers and also the memorial flowers - like how youve fitted them together like a jigsaw at the bottom. what is the finish on the sunflowers ? are they untreated or is that a orange colored coating its hard to see...
  19. i think the point is that if you are too intimidated to get involved in case your work isn't the best thing ever made in all of history then you will never learn a thing, and more importantly maybe (for a child anyway) you will never feel the buzz of "im making a sword!" and someone encouraging you to just get stuck in. Looking at it from the point of teaching your child is not so different than learning as an adult - its about igniting an interest based on experienceing something for yourself rather than just out of a book, and having something in your hands in way of a result - it doesnt matter that its not heat treated and its really very far from being a usable sellable weapon - just that you feel there is somewhere you can start whoever you are. Its the same as if you feel like making a cake - you shouldnt worry if your first attempt is not expert - its the place where you learnt you love trying to make cakes! And as for all the really beautiful swords and knives (and cakes)that take your breath away, that is what you can dream about!
  20. hi solar energy - just spotted your name on the new membersd bit - not bern using the site long my self but its very good - loads of advice whenever you want it! cant be bad. what kind of work /interest do you have? i have just started up kind os seriously after years of young kids - i did it about 10 years ago and getting back into it now that i can. where are you? im uk , cheers solar, from beth

  21. my 9 year old son wants to make an urak hai sword from lord of the rings and he has made a good plastic kind of thing and so i will let him cut a simple one out of sheet and work out how to make a handle. it would be madness to tell him it is a task that is too hard for him when he will be so inspired and excited by the result of a bit of work and a very simple 'sword'. whats the harm - it is all about getting inspired thats what keeps you going on the long haul of getting your skills together!
  22. cliff i LOVE your dalek! youve come this far you got to finish it in copper...
  23. how bout a boot scraper? that what im going to do this week for a friend...
  24. wow didnt expect this work when i was glancing through the list - it s really unusual - they all have an insect kind of feeling to me, and armour in the way insects have armour too. looks very strong and at same time very delicate, also a dark vibe about the work? bit spooky to come across in the dark! like someone just said - you would definately notice going through those gates! for me the whole point is that your work grabs somebodys attention for a second and changes their day slightly...
  25. hi elizabeth how cool to have a writer using the site for book purposes! i have not been using this site long but al these guys will tell you everything you need to know im sure its brilliant! and as for your smiting you should definately persue it yourself - nothing like the real thing for flavouring your books! im a mother of three young kids and havent done any metal work for a long time but am getting my teeth back in now and there is so much help and encouragement on here. so if i can do it - go for it! it is very mesmerising and will fire your imagination. ps wish my forge fired by dragon breath!
