There will be a tension screw holding the too hardy into place. I will have an arc over it so I hit the arc, not the hardy shank directly.

1 thing, I don't know how to draw reins very well at all. I plan on getting a scholarship from BFC next year so I can go take a class with Brian. waiting patiently.
-
Oh, you want one of these.
No, Not particularly :)
-
Good luck finding one in Iceland. I need a small army of tongs, all i can seem to make are flat jaws ATM.
-
The point is to not have to have a striker for making hammers or punches or other large stock things. You can't hold the pice, a top tool, and sledge at the same time, so a guillotine to hold said tools, while you sledge it or hammer it, would be possible.
-
This guillotine tool is designed to be separately mounted from an anvil and hold hardy tools on the top and bottom, eliminating the need for dies.
Here's a cad model with sizes
https://tinkercad.co...ngs/b6sDtWok5LU
sizes are in inches and are in the order of
Length x width x height
these are the metal sizes and materials you will need
a welder, drill, threader, and hardy hole sized drift.
1| 2 x 2 x 1
2| 1 x 1 x 1
1| 3 x 3 x 1
4| 1 x 1 x 7
4| 5 x 1/2 x 1
4| 4 x 1/2 x 1
1| 7 3/4 x 4 3/4 x 1 1/2
I will have a step by step on youtube when i can afford the metal.
This will cost approximately $45.00 to make and a few days to construct.

I dont have a hammer large enough to justify drawing things out. It would take me about 3 minutes to weld on reigns as opposed to 1-2 days to draw out any reins to size.
I just fire weld mine. I feel that is still "the old way" of doing things. -
I plan on welding spikes to the bottom, burying a tree stump, then hammering the tool into the stump. I almost have all the dimensions figured out

Had this one for about a month. free is so nice :D

Best blacksmithing video on YouTube second to johnneemantools birth of a tool series

I want a guillotine tool that can hold hardy tools with shanks and too tools. I am going to fabricate one here, updates maybe.

I squealed like a fangirl when this thread got an update. Impressive!

Wow... Thats a lot of dough. was it worth it?

I believe it to be people having general disdain for scrappers. I am actually going to USE the metal and recycle it into something beautiful. I think people respect that. I can get some 2" round 4140 from the local welders for $2.00 a foot just because they respect that i am not playing video games and wasting my life away.
-
Whenever i look for scrap metal for forging, I ask the local welding shops. It ALWAYS ends exactly the same.
Me: "do you have any scrap metal i can look through?"
them: "no, we don't give scrap away... what for?"
me: "well, im a blacksmith."
then i get cut off by
Them: "well, i GUESS you can look through our scraps."
Its always funny.
Similar experiences?

An old sash brooch like the old celts used.

Cute ^_^ I love it and it looks very useful. how much did you pay for it?
-
Really? I cant stand it. It feels like a low-key soap opera with sub-standard acting

Adamfrd; I'd be happy for you to hide your A&H at my place in NM; the thieves will never think to look there and I live in a "shoot them and bury them in a desert" neighborhood; haven't even had my scrap pile bothered...
I am not sure how to reply to this XD -
I have heard pine tar does great things. Time to resize some handles as I can wrap my thumb all the way around to my knuckles. (I have REALLY long fingers)
-
A little heat from an un-concentrated torch head and a few taps around the edges with a wood mallet will loosen it significantly.

A guillatine tool!

Beautiful work my friend.

I am reinventing the wheel, it's what I like to do. The hardys will be the same size shank.
