  1. Like most ratings - and this is the same - a 25LG may rated for 2", that is a max rating (on occasion if needed and very slow forging even at a high heat) and a quantity rating would be less as in the 1" range.
An analogy would be a plasma cutter rated for 3/4" - yes it will sever 3/4" but a quality proficient cut would be down in the 1/2"-5/8" range and less for a more faster cut. When one works with any equipement, they are the first to what the limits are when you get to them.

    Good analogy jeremy
  2. Last weekend me and the family went to flaming gorge for a family reunion and decided to stop and meet Ted. we stopped in Duchesne Friday night and meet at a restaurant. ted was great really good people and real good with the kids to. he did a little magic show for the kids, the disappearing penny. he started by saying that his brother showed him how to make the penny disappear but for a price, he went to his piggy bank a gave him all he had. after he made the penny disappear my youngest daughter, shes 8, had said where did the penny go? Ted replied i don't know my brother wanted more money to show me how to bring it back, and i didn't have any money left! and after we ate and much prompting from sydnee he brought the penny back. and she hasn't let that penny out of her sight since. these computers really don't reflect a person for how they really are and I'm glad i stopped by because i made a new friend. one with a great personality to boot!

I wrote this to let everyone know what type of person and personality Ted is and has, and that he is going through a tough time. he has had some physical ailments starting back in December and dropped 70 pounds! hes gained 30ish back since then but these ailments, (i don't know if he wants everyone to know the specifics.) but could be life threatening. and his wife also has ailments that if he was gone she would succumb to her ailments as well. After meeting him it would be a shame to lose a person with such a great personality and knowledge.

He could use any and all prayers.

  3. Hey Caotropheus,

    Nice Cleaver! ;)

I like the pitted look giving it that aged well seasoned look. And the olive wood, that stuff stinks to work but is very beautiful when your done. Great job! Chad J

  4. Thanks Andrew, Fosterob, Clinton, Thomas, Fciron I appreciate the feed back and it has made me ponder on this press. I just got back from there the screw is a 2 lead and one revolution it traveled 1 5/8" and had approximately 8" of travel. the picture from KSL.com don't do it justice. I thought that i would go there and look down at it, and to my surprise it was taller than me! (I'm 6'-2") there's not a lot i literally look up to but this was one of them! ;) It needs to be torn down and thoroughly cleaned. Which is just one of many little projects i have if i decide to take it. Anyway Thanks guys for the info. Chad J

P.S. Sorry for the large pictures, I haven't quite figured that part out.

  5. Hey All

I found this press on KSL.com a local classified place and was wondering if any body had comments or give me any ideas of stuff i should look for. Is this a fairly good deal? i contacted him and will be going over there tomorrow to check it out.
    Thanks Chad J

  6. Thanks Chad. Are the dimensions the same for the 250 and the 460? Yeah the plate, and steel in general is pretty spendy. Thanks for the thought though.

The 250 was 2" ish, shy of the 460. If i remember right, Steve had a 250 there and i measured it just for curiosity. and on his web site it looks like about two inches less.

  7. Anybody have the height dimension on the fontanini 460 lb anvil? He has the dimension diagram on his site, but for the life of me i can't read what this one is. I am starting to build a stand and need to know the height so i can get it where i want it. I bought some 1/2" plate today for the anvil to sit on. I had to buy four ten by ten inch plates to weld together. The steel supplier had nothing of the size i wanted, unless i wanted to pay a ton for a four foot by eight foot sheet of 1/2"!
Also should i preheat the plate before welding? Anyone have any opinions on welding 1/2" plate for an anvil base?

Let me run back down to the barn and measure mine. Don't like the sound of you having to buy steel plate. :o If you was closer i can get some 1/2" plate or 1" plate from work!
