  1. I am ordering the 460 pounder. As soon as my tax money comes in. I am looking forward to a larger anvil and more mass.

    I found a picture and finally got it to upload to the gallery, but i haven't figured out how to post here from the gallery. I'm headed down to the barn anyway i will take pics while I'm down there. Chad

  2. Hey Chad, how's that fontanini holding up? Did you radius any edges yet? I'm thinking of buying the same anvil.
    Brian

    A little, I'm not real sure how much of a radii i want to do, i made a stand and painted the bottom with primer for protection then decided to paint the sides. i took a picture......... I'll have to see if i can find it.
  3. To paraphrase, stabilization is to remove the air in the wood or bone with polyurethane or polymer under a vacuum. let it dry and it is then stabilized. usually penetrates 1/8"-1/4" depending on what you use. if you google it there a bunch of ways to accomplish this. Chad J

  4. Hey Anvil Fire777,
    First congratulations on the new (new to you) anvil! Christmas came early for you! Second send pictures of your anvil, it helps in the ID of it. With the wieght on the side "202" it sounds like the hundred weight system Hundred weight system
    On anvils the first number is a hundred weight or 112 pounds. Second number would be quarter hundred weight or 28 pounds. And the last number would be in single pounds or 1 pound.
    In your case 2 0 2 ,
    2 =112 + 112= 224
    0 = 0
    2 = 2
    Total 226
    After i post this I'll dig into AIA and see where it talks about "H" stamped on the feet.

    Anyway Nothing better than free stuff, hope this helps Chad

    Possibly a Peter Wright Anvil

  5. Last Wednesday I went up to garland, about an hour and half away. looked it over and it turned out to be a 17" shaper so i decided to take it. the shop there was an old metal working / blacksmith shop. Dan ( the present owner) said that it had been through three different shop owners. so it had been there for some time. There was some pretty cool old tools in there like a metal lathe, Champion forge and blower drill press to name a few. cool thing was that all of these had ran off of an old pulley system. they were saying awhile back, they remembered the pulley system still up. but unfortunately it was not there for me to see. Now I need to clean out the barn/ shop so i can get in from outside.
    Holy crap balls! That thing is heavy! it was everything the back hoe could do to lift it out of the trailer! finally just lifted and then drove out from underneath it! and it sits. same spot, until i build a gantry or something to rig off of.
    Ahhh Hobbies.... Love It!

  7. I want to start by saying I'm not a machinist, but want to start as a hobbyist. There is a old shaper on a local classified site, and i was wondering would it be worth the trouble to get this or is this considered obsolete. Maybe put time and money into a milling and lathe machine? This is the link. Ksl.com

    Thanks for any input. Chad J
