yes that is a verry nice blade,(or was) considering with what you had for an anvil, i tried a railroad track once but the convex on the top messed me up to much.

yeah good point, they are verry thick blades that must be part of the reason they are so strong, also i was looking at a busse combat destruction test earlier, i think it was one called the busse combat battle mistress, man they made that thing cut through 5mm metal pipe, pounded it through bricks and rocks and in the end, the busse had barely any damage at all, i would love to own one but they are just a bit out of my price range, same with striders, w/e thanks for the reply, ttyl

i am wondering what kind of paint or ink you can put on a knife that wont easily come off, i saw a knife with a nice camo finish and i want to do that to one of my own, i was thinking spraypaint but i dont know...if anyone has an idea i would love to know, thanks.

yeah i really should get some books on the matter, there is much i do not know, but if you aren't familiar with strider knives go to striderknives, they are amazing blades, you can also see destruction tests on you tube and man o man they can take a ridiculous amount of punishment, thank you for the return post also

what is it exacly that makes strider brand knives so strong? how would one attemt to make a verry strong blade without a bunch of machines?

thank you for your comment, i just gave it a loser inspection and now see the layer where the carbon starts at the teeth, and good idea on the cage you made, i wouldnt want to be anyware near a mill blade when that thing comes flying off at mach 1

i am hoping to eventually make a knife out of a file, but since i have no forge i was thinking about just using stock removal method, with an old grinder and other files i hope to make a knife but i am wondering if it would be a better choice to heat it first and let it slowly cool to decarbonize to it is easier to form, and then i plan to harden it again, would a normal fire and some coal get the file to the right temperature to harden it? i have no blower either so i plan to use a fanning method, thanks i hope to hear some advice on what method i should use.

i am currently trying to make a macheti out of an old saw mill blade, it is about 2 1/2 ft long and 5mm thick, since it is a saw blade i am guessing it is carbon steel but it seems quite flimsy, i was wondering if i could get an instruction on how to harden it so it is more ridgid or, if it will even get ridged due to the lenth of it,but i am hoping for some advice, thanks shaun.
