Probablyforged

I've had this old hatchet, what I believe is used for hewing, for about 10 years. I recently re sharpened it and noticed the remnants of a maker's mark, but it's just to worn to make out. It appears on the back of the hatchet there is a nickel or brass filling, but I'm not real sure. Can anyone tell me what brand this is, or anything about it at all.

Yep. It's for applying clamps. Probably wouldn't last long beating on an anvil.

I'm not sure why, because it's certainly not a machinist hammer! You know anything about it?

I bought this small machinist hammer at a flea market and wondering if anyone know anything about the name on it. Believe it says 'fast lok Winona, Minn'.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to do that. I've told everyone that if I wanted to make something that wouldn't fit in this forge that I would have to take the blower off of this one and build a new open forge, but now I see that's not necessary. Just modify the one I have.

Is a davy light round with a reflector and a flint wheel like a cigarette lighter?

Hey Chatch. You're not kidding. I'm new to this and never knew that you could actually split metal until I seen it in John Neeman's Birth of a tool. I was absolutely amazed. And still am by the whole process, really.

Yes sir. Which is what I want to start out doing. I figure I could cut the top half off of it and replace the cut out and have an open forge so I could at least lay something across it if needed.

Made from a freon tank I do believe.

What is the hook for? For hanging it something?

I picked this up at an estate sale a while back and originally thought it was a meat sorting tool, but not really sure. Perhaps someone on here could id this. Thanks!

When an anvil is chipped, or chunked, in this case, is that always evidence of abuse? Or just used for a long time?

Haha. You recognized that right off. I believe it weighs 103 lbs. Is that still considered a travel anvil? I paid $150.00 for it. Did I get a good deal?
