Probablyforged
I bought this small machinist hammer at a flea market and wondering if anyone know anything about the name on it. Believe it says 'fast lok Winona, Minn'.
yesteryearforge
Just curious as to why you refer to that as a machinist hammer ? I'm an OLD MACHINIST and have never seen a hammer like that in or around a machine shop.
Probablyforged
I'm not sure why, because it's certainly not a machinist hammer! You know anything about it?
LarryM
I'm thinking it may have been used the to knock off hub nuts, on a car with that type of hubs. Just my 2 cents Larry
Probablyforged
Yep. It's for applying clamps. Probably wouldn't last long beating on an anvil.
swedefiddle
Knock-offs use a Copper or Lead hammer, only. Steel hammer deforms the knock-off. It's probably a lump on a stick. ;) Neil
Frank Turley
Probablyforged, You have a cast iron coal hammer. Mike George, the first president of the Saltfork Craftsmen in Oklahoma, was a collector of "coal hammers." He had a great many of them, all with a different advertisement printed in raised lettering on the cast iron heads. These were promotional items handed out by hardware stores and other businesses much as advertising yardsticks were given to customers for good will. Ostensibly, they were supposed to be used to break up lumps of stove coal back in the day.
