  1. Vern, Looks good. Sorry about the post on the other entry. I did it before I saw this one. Travis
  2. Colleen, Ienjoyed your site, expecially the horse heads. Around here they would be show stoppers. Travis
  3. I don't know if this has been brought up before, but Ken gave this link to one of our members yesterday. It's a 30 minute PBS documentary forging a hinge for the Woodwrights Shop. It's called the Sorrid Blacksmith no 2712PBS - Woodwright's Shop: Schedule Travis
  4. Borax works realy well. Travis
  5. Jimbob is right they look like the newer body files. The older ones usually had screw holes in each end and screwed to a handle like a plane. they didn't have the handle on the end.
  6. I weld a lot of stainless to mild steel and almost always use 309. We have used 7018 in special spots with 309 over top. Some times when we can't get it clean we use 6011 with 309 on top,but our business is rendering which is always greasy or wet. Travis
  7. One of our members uses plywood with sand for insulation for his Viking Forge. The firepot never burns the wood. Travis
  8. Ask your doctor if he has ever tryed a drug called Nortriptylin. It's a antidepressant that is starting to be used for pinched nerves. You have to work up slowly with the dosage, but 75mg once a day has gotten me thrue a full year. Travis
  9. The whirl pool really does help. I have 2 herniated disc now. I'm waiting on the surgions now. I'm lucky though blacksmithing seems to help me. I've always held my hammer like Hoffi suggest and I think that helps. Overhead welding is what gets me. Travis
  10. I first learned to stick in Junior High. I started work in a body shop when I was 18. All any of the shops used then was gas. We welded many a car together with gas. Then went to mig. Now I.m a full time welder using stick, mig and tig. At home I have all but I prefer to use gas or forge weld. Travis
  11. Very Nice. I would like to see a Blueprint myself. Travis
