  1. Very true, good to see someone is paying attention :) but as I said they should read the Verhoeven paper. Its not easy to condense 205 pages into a quick post without getting a bit off track :D

I added "at or above" to my prev. post to help clear this...

  2. If you read the Verhoeven papers, there is a long explanation of this, but basically at the conversion of BCC and FCC they reform grain sizes, moving back and forth across the temperature is the precess of refinement to smaller grain.

At or above the Curie temperature there is grain growth toward larger grain, but its very slow growth, this is accelerated at higher temps.

  3. Welcome to I Forge Iron, Ft Wayne here, in your control panel you should at least tag yourself being from Indiana, if not adding your city as well, there are many members here and some may be very close and be able to give you hand on help in your or their shops.

  4. I use Kerosene then TSP after that, as gas vapors tend to explode violently. let it air dry and hope its all gone, you will find out if it hasn't.

Inclusions are anything in the weld zone that should not be there, remove it and try again. The black crud from what was a buried cable could be asphalt or some other protection, What did these look like when you took one apart to see what it was? You didnt post a picture of that is looked like before burning, so its hard to tell, as most things look black after being burnt in a forge.

  5. After a hard day it's nice to PLOP down in a comfy chair, watch the latest FADS on the tube, and toss the occasional DART!

We try in our labors to insure we don't FLOP, else we get in troubles, as I pass off blame as my DADS. I can use words that rhyme, like HEART, but I was not as desperate as Frosty, to use the word FART :D
  6. Welcome to I Forge Iron, its best to start learning general smithing skills, before moving on to any specialized field, such as blade work. Read enjoy, and try to hook up with smiths close to you and you are well on your way.

  7. SteveSells: What do you think, am I missing something. I can't see why or how it would make a difference running a three-phase machine on 240 or 480. Just the primary taping isn't it? Should be the same output, right? What's your take?

nope you covered it well, even your explanation of overlap was clear.

3 phase is 3 ph, the power factor is volts x amps. Only real difference is the size of the supply line bringing power to the welding unit. Because the 240v using 40 amps is the same power as 480v at 20a, but wire size is determined by the amperage.
  8. Just in case, we will leave this thread open for your future use :D Glad you are back safe, now do something nice for that lady of yours, and stop scaring her so much.

  9. I love it....

.. I meant to list this item for $ 15,000.00 + free shipping but forgot to enter the 1 so since it was my mistake I will go ahead and allow this auction to run its course and maybe this item will be overlooked and I will not have to sell it.

Very humorous really, not have to sell it at $5k LOL ok I am ready for the next joke.
  10. Roach proof is great. 98 % pure boric acid, 2%inert ingredients. It don't seem to effect the welds what ever that 2% is. But when I go and l buy more large containers, People gotta wonder about my roaches LOL (no, I dont have any that I have seen)
