I like mine at my wrist height which is about 32" so my new anvil satnd is 20" tall since ho wthe anvil is 12" tall. But its what is comfortable to you.

Mine is made out of 1/4" mild steel sides and 3/8" stainless steel bottom. It has held up well. May build another soon and try to put a clinker breaker in it.

1st off the slitter that will be used is only about 1 " long anyways . And I have used a friends tire hammer and liked it a lot.

Well, I talked to a smith that lives sorta close to me and decieded to build a tire hammer . Going order the plans ASAP. And going build it at his shop and he is going help round of metal and parts for it. Thanks for the input.

Alright . I have decided that a power hammer of MY own at my OWN shop would make my life MUCH easier. But I am having a problem on decideng what would be BEST for me. I want it to be able to draw stuff out, and want to also use SOME tooling , for slitting hammer eyes, etc. Would a Tire hammer or would Jr`s Helve hammer be best for what I`am looking for? I would prefer the helve cause the size . But not real sure about using slitter and stuff under it cause the way the head comes down, then the question of can a Clay spencer Treadle hammer be able to slitt hammer eyes?

Ok thanks Brian. I will probally file that out. Iam going making 2 more slitters like the one I used to make me a handled set like you use, cause I will be doing it by hand at home with a striker. I want to have a Ph set and hand/strikeing set of tools. I`ll only need one drift though (well probally 2) but the same style cause thhey are longer then what Iam using so I can hold the head by the drift while I`am drawing the cheeks out.
Frosty, Those pictures on took in a hurry , give me a few minutes and I`ll get better ones.
Thanks, Chris
PS, Brian, I`am going print all this to save to my Smithing Binder. -
Say Chris, didn't you just say a big old Euroanvil followed you home?
Where's my picture? first no pics of your hammer in progress, now no pic of your brand NEW ANVIL!
Am I going to have to come down there and teach you some manners? Hmmmm?
Frosty
I am turly sorry, I know y`all know it LOL. BUT it was dark and I traced the base on cardboard for the stand so I can get er built ASAP. I left it on wayne`s truck so I can forge the hot cut out of 1 3/4" 5160 he has with his Blu. Pictures are coming. -
Brain, Yes I did get some "rag" in the eye then broke it out by bending it , should I file that out or leave it , got to thinking but aint sure would that atucally help hold the handle? Also what did you make your tools from? Mind if I copy em? I think I `ll make me about 2 more slitters like Tom used and and make those handled tools for me to use witha striker at home and have the other slitters for when I can use wayne`s Blu.
Chris -
AP, that was my teacher`s doings there I didnt do the eyes, I made the hammer he dectoraited it , you gotta know him LOL.:p
-
Its a slitter that wayne bought from tom clarke. I think wayne said its H-13. Can you get me a DETAILED pictures of your hammer forging tools? If you need/want to send em by email or post em to the fourm.

Ok, I have enough 4140 to make me a "set" , if you will, of hammers by me, I Learned alot from my vist today to Big Blu on making hammers that will improve my hammers. I am going to make a new set of drifts and 2 more slitters for making hammer and the drifts will be long enough to drive in and hold under the Ph or on anvil to draw ou the cheeks.
