  1. Hey Y`all,
I searched for a thread about adding a 2nd burner to a gas forge and didnt find nuttin, if you know of one please post the link. Ok my question is can you add a 2nd burner to a gas forge that is already done with 1" of inswol, and 1" of castable Refactory? I have a 20lb propane bottle as my shell , with a fire brick in side the forge it gets hot but slower than I`am pleased with and only gets a meduim sized area hot. I have a modifed side arm burner in it and use anout 10lbs of pressure . It`ll get under 3/4" Hot pretty fast , but am wanting one to get 1.5"sq hot . If any is interested check it out in the tailgating.

  2. Hey y'all,
Recently my Great Grandpa passed away. I wanted to do something special for his grave because he always liked for me to show him what I was making at the time. So I decied I would forge a shepards hook out of 1/2" sq. The Hook is bent on the dimond. It has a few reverse twists in it. The end that goes in to the ground has 2 pieces of angle iron on opposite sides to keep the wind from blowing it over.

  3. Well to start off with ,my forge hood is a old small water heater tank. My forge is built from droppings. My gas forge is built from a old 20lb. propane bottle. All my punchs and chisels are made from old coil spring. I make a lot of knives out of old files and old horse shoe rasps, and mower blade. my hot cut for my euro anvil was made out f 1 3/4" coild spring, my mouse hole hot cut is made from old truck axle. My shop is built with "scrap" 2x4s from my uncles work which where thrown out as scraps but were extras.

  4. Side draft has my vote too. I have an overhead, and have used side drafts, no comparison. Side draft wins hands down.

I agree 100% with Jeff on this subject, side draft is the way to go. I had an over head now I have a side draft , the side draft DRAWS SO MUCH BETTER than the over head.
  5. Thanks!

Yeah frosty got to know him quite well. He was a character. He told me about him skipping school and going to the blacksmith`s shop and crank his blower for him, he said the smith would yell at him for going to fast , he had a lot more details in that story but not very appropriate for the site LOL:D.

  6. Chris:

Glad it wasn't worse. Tongs that fit are a good thing for sure. How about forging a pair?

There are a number of good products available, some over the counter, that will reduce or prevent scaring. Unless you're thinking a cool scar will help attract the girls of course. ;)

    Yeah probally forge some .

Na, I `am hoping a cool scar with help with the girls LOL :D
  7. Well yesterday evening I decided I would fire my forge up. Well got er going real good and it just got coked up good and put a piece of 1/4"x1" in for a door pull for a demo coming up, got it to the anvil and was drawing a taper on one end for a spade, the tongs slipped and the piece of glowing orange steel flew up and hit my face , right under my eye and knocked my glasses and my hat off. I got a 2nd degree burn and will have a big scar. Need less to say I`am fixing to order some tongs to fit 1/4"x1" flat bar.

  8. The hammer is Finally DONE!!!! I hardened and tempered it Saturday with the help of Jason AKA Ragtag. My uncle made and put a handle in it today. I will get pictures uploaded probably Wednesday. It weighs in at 2.75lbs with the handle , which is what I wanted.
    Chris:D;)
