  1. Ian, I tried to send you a message but your mailbox must be full. Here is what I was trying to send. You wrote in a thread from early 2010 about a dragon door knocker that had a tapering pineapple twist for the body and tail. The link to the picture is dead. Do you have another copy of the picture? It certainly sounds interesting.
  2. That is the cleanest post vice I've ever seen. Very nice!
  3. Rotation on an LG25. Does it make any difference?
  4. I took apart and cleaned all the old muddabber nests out of an old electric motor. Somehow I lost a washer from one bell housing. It looks like the one from the other end, pictured, only smaller. I've found some spring wave washers online but none that are split into three segments. Anyone know of a source for these or what they are called?
  5. Hi all, Here are some photos. I'm going to use the money elsewhere. The fellow seems pretty firm on $600. Located in south central OK near Durant, Ok. The number is 580-564-4065. Definitely Peter Wright and 204#.(1 3 8)
  6. Ok, sounds like the consensus is 1/2"x21/2"x13 socket head cap screw. Actually, when I get the ramguide and possibly the ram out of the way, I'm going to try move a drill press over the site to improve the precision.
  7. Thanks Phil. So that's why Grant recommended a 2 3/4" depth with presumably a 2 1/2" bolt. Cool. I found this article which explains the torque required.Zerofast torque I guess a grade 5 1/2"x20 socket head cap screw should work well.
  8. Thanks for the work Grant. I'll have to disassemble the ram guide to get the drill to the chip. But, I was going to take off one of the bolts to put a cage around it. I saw a great and simple cage this weekend at another smithie's shop. Plus I have to change the belt to new doubles so I needed to lift the driveshaft off. Anyone have good recommendations for the drive pulley/belt combo? What does 4 X dia mean? I understand that a 1/2" bolt will have deeper threads than a 1/4" bolt. Is that what it's related to?
  9. A little more info for the folks suggestiong bolting down the chip. The chip is a 2"X2" 90 degree triangle. It's feather-edge on the hypotenuse-side and about 5/8" thick at the 90 degree point. It looks like it might be a little tight to get two 1/2" bolts in there as one person suggested since you only have 2 sq.ins. of surface area to drill in. What do you think?
  10. Yeah, I really wish I had the original motor. This one is from 1969. I called Baldor which owns them, gave them the model number and they sent me the orignal manu. sheet. Amazing.C14G0502N.PDF
  11. I meant 1/4" diameter bolts then tap drill about 3/8" below the crack . The chip is about 2" long from a feather edge to about 1/2" thick at the end. Would 1/2" bolts leave enough original material? Not trying to argue just understand.
  12. Any reviews of the two setup-type videos for LG's. Sid has one and Dave in Canada. Are they more or less the same? Is it worth getting both? Thank you,
  13. This is basically what Sid recommended. Would you say two 1/4" long enough to go around 3/8" into the block w/ washers/lock washers would do it? The previous owner bought it this way and had it about 6 years. He used it on plow blades but it sat in the barn the last two years. The dies are almost used up so I'll probably change them out for the changeable dies. As far as passing on it, I bought what I could afford (actually a little more). I'd certainly like to have been able to buy one of Sid's rebuilts! I'd hadn't seen aay others in this price range. What needs to be done to it can be done in stages.
  14. My wife flys to London occassionally. She says if you don't buy it she'll bring it back in her luggage. Ha ha . I wish! Buy it if you can!
  15. Here's the hammer. It was $1150 at a farm auction, probably not a great deal but not terrible. It seems to have been rebuilt by a previous owner since it was repainted including the letters. Seems pretty tight. The only obvious problem except for the mubdabbers is a crack in the sowblock. The piece may flake off eventually but the previous owner said it was that way when he bought it.
  16. Right now budgetary considerations dictate a conservative approach if at all possible. Is it harmful to wash the motor letting it dry before use of course?
  17. I bought a 1911 LG 25 at auction. I'll follow up with pics and more info later but, I have a quick question. It sat in a barn for awhile and so has many muddabber nests throughout including the motor. Can I wash the motor inside? I'm sure the sandy soil they used won't do the motor any good!
  18. How do you make those lovely rowels?
  19. I have a line on a Peter Wright. 204 lbs. no pics yet. Fellow says it's in good shape but he also said it weighed 100 lbs. Then he gave me the numbers 1 3 8. He's asking $600. Does that seem a little high? Thanks.
  20. Since he was going to junk them, offer him twice the going scrap-buying price.
  21. Anyone know why they made this so complicated? Looks like an extra wheel. Lancaster blower
