  4. This is my first try at a large sharp objec also my first drifting. I used a railway spike, upset the shaft, drifted then shaped, used a super quench due to probable low carbon content seemed to harden good enough for a hatchet . Handle is red gum Let me know what you think.... Cheers

Gday all,(chest puffed up)this is my first try at pattern welding ,all be it scrap steels its steel bandsaw blade from the cutoff saw at work and pallet strapping the one inch stuff i cleaned them both up cut em to lengths & tacked the ends & sides and welded on a rebar handle & prayed to the forge welding gods & went at it,the gods must have looked kindly on me ,fully welded found no inclusions 30 layers, left it random pattern for my first didnt want to test the gods too much, the slabs are homemade desert camo canvas micarta and im getting quicker at my leather work for the sheath , let me know what you thinkcheers

  17. Gday to all,i have not posted in a while so heres what ive been up to,the first is my first try at forge welding its a concrete slab tensioning cable actually a few of them twisted together then welded.etched in vinegar overnight to bring out the pattern, this was given to my father inlaw he was happy so i was happy.the next is a kitchen knife i made for my first customer yep i sold one its 5160 leaf spring with red gum slabs and stainless pins my thinnest blade yet he loved the shape and comfort in hand and better yet not having to resharpen every day.this one here is my favourite its 5160 with blue jean homemade micarta slabs, stainless guard and pins and a pvc sheath with camo paint, cant wait to do some hunting with it its got 8"blade, overall 14", just under 1/4" at the thickest and shaving sharpand last of all this was for my second customer, its an old file rebirthed into a skinning knife with deer antler handle my first hidden tang also,i found some leather and made a sheath for it, the customer is wrapped with it and says the shape and size is very practical and the deer antler suits it waddya reckonthanks for lookin let me know what ya think.

  19. G'day to all Gibbo here,I've been on this site for maybe a year and I've only just found this thread I'm a bit slow on the uptake anyways I live in Sydney's west out near penrith ,I'm a backyard basher and all round tinkera ,made myself a coal forge bout a year ago and I'm hooked I'm currently doin a gas forge just have to put the kaowool an a couple of firebricks and she will be cranking.ive made a few knives now I love doin them each one I do I see my skill level increase but it's still a long journey to go, would love to catch up with a fellow steel basher who is close bye and have a couple cold ones and bash something hot Cheers Gibbo
