  1. Its so thin at the tip I'm amazed that they were able to hit it with a a hammer with out bending it!
  2. Go to the top of this page click on home then at the top of the home page is the link to the blueprints or click here http://www.iforgeiron.com/blacksmith-blueprints/index.php
  3. in your picture it looks like there are two elbows I think you need a Tee and bring your air in from the side with the bottom rigged as an ash dump with a nipple and a cap to start with. I use about three pine cones inside full sheets of newspaper in a tight ball then light it off and add some coal then turn on the air...Also you didn't say what kind of beer you were drinking!
  4. There is a link; down at the bottom; to take you to their ebay auctions. there are something like 27 pages on sale. its a bit quicker to look and see if they have what you want then just purchase what you need.
  5. well I got one of my boys over to help me lift the hood and move the bricks and set the hood right down on the edge of the fire box...what can I say "It Sucks" Now if I just had some of the tile they put on the space shuttle to put on the outside of the hood so it dosen't radiate heat back at me I'ed be set.
  6. The Blacksmith's Craft Charles McRaven ISBN-13:978-1-58017-593-7;ISBN-10:1-58017-593-7(pbk. :alk. paper) 247 Pages This is a new book by Charles Mc Raven out this year . I bought a copy because I have his other book. Country Blacksmithing. when I started looking through the new book it was the same page for page only at the end is a paragraph that there is a lot of inormation on the internet. If you don't have a copy of Country Blacksmithing (out of print now) this would be a good book to add to ones library p.s. I'ed put the ISBN and page count in but I put my copy in Iron the hat at the last Guild meeting.
  7. its been re published the new title is "The Blacksmiths Craft" I got one from Amazon for like $14.00 plus shipping ...about $10.00 cheaper than ebay.
  8. I got one of thoes also had it for 25 years... you can beat on it but you can't do the work you can on a good one! it does make a good weight to hold my treddle hammer down.
  9. here's a picture of my buffer with the long arbors with buffing wheels on it as you can see you have a lot of room to buff long items
  10. I don't think I need THAT much adjustment...a three or four foot section might work for this old anvil!
  11. I'd love to take one of his classes ...I got my copy of the book from a guy in my guild that had taken one. he bought several books from him for resale.
  12. you know my wife got a new book the other day called "The Secret" it deals with getting what you want...in short if you focus on it and decided that is what you really want you will get it.
  13. check out Burden Sales Surplus Center - Hydraulics, Engines, Electrical and More they have all sorts of stuff to build your own welder or anything else
  14. before I raised it th other day I had two inch thick fire bricks on the floor which made the opening more or less 10x10 seemed to work ok. it was just the start up of the fire was too much smoke coming back at me and not going up the stack thats why I raised it to see if it would work better like I said I'm still playing with it.
  15. I just raised it up 2 inches to see how it would draw as the smoke seemed to rise to that higth. I also loaded about 5 bricks inside on each side and it does seem to make it draw better . I was thinking of getting some of the thin fire bricks made for stove liners over at tractor supply and lining the floor
  16. mine has a 2" lip also just can't see it the photo I'm still messing with the hight and have problem when the wind is out of the west I might have to enclose the space
  17. here's a picture of the side draft forge hood I built for my forge a couple weeks ago it's like 32"wide 14" deep 48"tall with a six inch smoke shelf a slanting floor. its made of 11 ga steel the opening is 10x12 the stack is 10" dia, x ten feet tall i'm still playing with it ...I think I'm going to have to put a wall up around it to stop the air currents.
