    forged lind stick

A lind stick is the gizmo used to hold the burning rope used to light the primer charge on a cannon. My version is a dragon with the wick as the fire from its mouth. Mounted on an appropiate length of dowel. The curl on the top so it can be hung somewhere.
  4. A close up of the head. Its really hard to see but there is a db punched into the hood of the snake. The back is a course rasp and the front a cross cut file. the base is a ring with legs and a drip pan riveted to it to hold the candle

    SNAKE, snake

Don't tread on me, candle holder.
  6. What to do with old farrier rasps and files, or how to up load your files. Cut the mouth open and make a tongue to put inside. Drill a hole at the back of his mouth and smack his mouth shut. Draw out the tail to round.

    strap hinges

A slightly different style, when the lid opens the hinge side of the strap rests against its mate and holds the lid open instead of flopping all the way over.

    strap hinges

These are first attemps and would look different now. Chamfer the edges, longer curls, and better points on the lilly ends

    basket hooks

Draw the ends out farther than you think you need, you always use them up. The puzzle, how did I get the wire down the centre?

    Simple S hook

S hooks are simple to make, whats sets them apart is how they are finished. The attention to the tips, use a round stake or hardy to make the ends safe and round; and a twist if you like.

    Blowhard Tip

The tip of the blowhard is flatened then tested to make sure it works right. Its made this time from square stock and fullered and twisted. The trick is to fill it with sand and plug the ends so it does not chrushed while worked.

    Blowhard

This interesting tool is used to start fires indoors and out. But no bending over or knelling on the ground

    vice repairs

This is one of my get a round tuit jobs. I've had theses two vises around for more than a year and they are now being repaired. The hardest job was making a mounting bracket for the larger vice. I started with 1 1/2 sq. stock 7 in. long. Cut an almost square tenon in one end with a zip cut blade on my grinder. Then carefully cleaned things up. (its hidden anyways) NOT NOW! ....dough! Cut a long sq. hole. Then the two man job. pounding flat on flat forever. Thats as far as I got so far. I'm hoping to do a little shaping next. Fullering down the ramp and squeezing it out on both sides into something like two leaves with a point between them. I have a top fuller that should do the job, we'll see. I use the bracket from the small vice as a pattern. Check the pictures. Don't touch that dial! stay tuned for for the next beating........Duck
  16. Finnally got the camera working. here are the pics of the trailer hitch ball and what it became.
  17. Thanks for all the replys. As it turned out most of the chrome on the used ball hitch was worn off and the forge was well ventilated, but burning it off in an outside wood fire where wind and distance from the fire can be adhered to safely is the one I'll use for the next time. not so dead, Duck
