Anvil at last
Hello fellow members, I am pleased to announce I finally found and bought an anvil. Actually two anvils. Though neither are anywhere near perfect, they will serve my purpose fine. The first is a Vulcan #9. I thought it was a #5 but after I cleaned some of the paint an rust off of it I saw it was a #9. Which explained why it was so heavy. The second anvil is more of a mystery. It is a cast steel (I think) with the markings 83Lbs and what looks to be a star shape and the word warranteed below the star (both above the 83Lbs). There is a mark on the bottom of the anvil looks like a "0" and the is a mark on one of the feet looks like a "4" or an "A". The bottom also has a real nice smoothe recess that is oval shaped. If any one can ID the second I would appreciate it. Other than that they are mine and I am happy. Now to make some tools for them.

Welcome to the Alabama Forge Council
Hello fellow AFC members. I new to the AFC, I joined a few months ago. I have yet to attend a meeting but hope to do so soon. I live in the Butler, Alabama (Choctaw County) area. I am an at large member. Does anyone know where I can get some coal for my forge? Closer than Birmingham? Thanks.

Champion 400 mounted to the arm of my forge. The original blower was Lost or stolen. But this is the correct style blower for this forge. Even the make do galvanized pipe setup fit it.

Francis, It was a gift from stewartthesmith, I plan to clean up the mushroomed end. What is the best way to do that?

The Champion 400 blower I got from stewartthesmith, It is in really good shape externally and internally. Just need to remove several decades of grime and shoot some fresh paint on it.

My "new to me" forge
Hello All! I finally got me a coal forge. It was owned by the man who drove the school bus I rode while in elementary school. He passed away a few years back, and his wife and daughter were left with the forge along with his anvil and post leg vice. The forge and other items belonged to his father who was also the local blacksmith at a community near the river south of me. I am not sure, but I think it is a Buffalo Forge #12 pan. There is a number cast into the underside of the forge looks like a 12. The blower was stolen or misplaced. There is a bracket attached to the bottom of the pan that would have held the blower. I believe it used to have a clinker breaker but that was replaced with a grate some time ago. If anyone can identify this forge and/or have a lead on a blower that would work. Please post.

lease your shop?
$50.00 is $50.00. If they are not in the way or slowing you down. Why not?
