  5. I took a picture of the sledge etc. i weighed it and it weighs 6.6kg or 14.55lbs . id hate to swing it myself but couldnt let it go to scrap. Also got a drive shaft from a farm truck i think. about 4ft long and 1.5" thick
  6. Local old timer passed away near here. Had 3-4 acres of stuff he had collected over the years. Like a scrap yard only very little ever left once through the gates. I scored two blowers on stands. the little one turns very well and throw lots of air the large one is tight but moves, need some cleaning up to work. and i got the tongs. grand some of $57 Australian dollars . There was heaps of old wrought iron wheels, chain etc. could have a had a field day if i had more time etc. Shame is in next few weeks it is all being scrapped the big excavators were already getting into the back 2 acres which the public could not enter into. Tis a sad day. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h283/Swiftden/IMAG0097.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h283/Swiftden/IMAG0095-1.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h283/Swiftden/IMAG0098.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h283/Swiftden/IMAG0096.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h283/Swiftden/IMAG0099.jpg Went back today being 24/02/13 and picked up 3 wagon wheel rims, a couple of forge tools, some weights for in the shed and a sledge hammer head which i rekon would weigh 5 to 6 kilos at a guess.
  7. it would be easier to make up some forks for your 3pl and that way you can use them for other stuff to. Great idea tho to get the project you wanted.
  8. I too am a bee keep from South Australia. I Currently have 30 hives. I used my extractor for the first time the other day and took 70kgs of honey from 4 doubles and a triple. I too am trying to get into black smithing. slowly getting gear together and making room in my shed. Unfortunately i already have too many hobbies and work which seem to get in the way. Bees can be very interesting. Regards Allan
  9. I thought about making one of these myself. but it is a lot of weldign and i didnt like the idea of grinding it all flat. I also only have an arc welder so thats a lot of slag to chip off. Send some progress pictures if you try it please.
  10. Looking great mate. Reminds me of the stories told to frighten children about headless riders lol. Seriously tho what an inspiration
  11. All i can say is wow. I can't believe what some of you guys turn out . It is seeing knives like this that makes me truely envious of your skills. thankyou for sharing with us all. Regards Allan
  12. What is the final cost of these? Weight? Demensions . Now that you have them completed. Sorry if i have already missed these details. Also what would the freight cost be to get one to South Australia? Probably too much i imagine :(
  13. wish something like that would fall in mine good score mate ! B)
  14. looks good but pictures are too small to have a good look at it
  15. I have two really good scrap yards that I can go hunting in and they seem to charge pretty well. I know both of the owners and have gotten friendly with them. It certainly helps. I hope to get some more work done on this soon. But work and my other hobbies seems to get in the way a bit.
  16. Pictures as promised. ruler is 60cm long. 3" outlet
  17. Well this project stalled for a while due to moving and also a back injury etc. I have now picked up a decent size cast iron hand crank blower . I went to the local scrap yard looking for a few bits and pieces for another project. Anyway while looking around the assorted scrap I saw a smashed round cast iron forge on three legs the whole floor of it was gone . Then I saw that there was a blower mount on the side of it but no blower. Looking around I spotted the cast iron tuyere and thought I would pull it out from the scrap pile as I might be able to use it with my forge. It was hard to get out of the pile so i kept on shifting stuff and low and behold there was the old hand crank blower minus the handle. I can spin the fan around quite smoothly with my finger and the shaft where the handle should be turns slowly as well. Appears to be in good nick and the gear box still has oil in it. Scrap dealer sold it to me for $50.00 . I will post some pictures in the next few days . Regards Allan
  18. http://www.artistblacksmithsa.org.au/Welcome.html This might help mate
  19. This anvil recently sold at an auction house called MGS auctions here in SA.I do not knwo what the seller paid but a week later it is on ebay for sale again. So i think they might be trying to turn a profit.
  20. Well won't be using the blower pictured . it arrived but it is way smaller than i thought it was going to be. So im back to looking for another one.
  21. wow that generated some discussion. I glad it was what i thought it was and not some ultra rare anvil. hey i thought the same as every one else"someone has put a alot of time into it." but i also thought hey it is just a piece of rail iron !
  22. Hello came across this on ebay and it has me puzzled. It looks like a piece of rail iron to me? Yes it looks well made but obviously its more than it seems going by the price? can some one enlighten me ? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Antique-Blacksmith-Forge-Anvil-1900-2Kg-/380344618686?pt=AU_Gardening_Equipment&hash=item588e4e4ebe
