  2. The dies horseshoes are forged on are highly polished in machining (to prevent sticking) and through use, that coupled with "scale" does make them look coated. Ours are not shotblasted. I have some aluminum shoes here that are at least 30 years old. spiritrider

  5. I noticed the guys in the drop forge shop using NG torches to preheat (on cold mornings) the dies before forging. Should a cold anvil be warmed before starting work? And if so anyone have suggestions on how? Thanks spiritrider
  6. Some of us (cheapskates) prefer to be called frugal. I just lately bought a Fisher Norris 250# for $50.00. Smooth faced, few small nicks on the horn, on a steel stand. I shall remain as frugal as possible. spiritrider
  7. Sounds like powder post beetles. They're everywhere. I've had them eat my shop stumps and the shop framing. I use the copper treatments. shadowrider
