I do not have a forge, but there use to be an iron works back there
Where is there? -
Welcome Geno.
From the pic it looks like a pile of rocks. Does that mean that is what they are?
Sorry I could not help it
Do you have a forge to try to heat one and see what happens if you hammer on it?
Also you should update your profile to show your location, maybe eight people down the road will be able to help out.

Those were some good videos, they made it look easy. Thank you.

Can one of you guys give those of us who don't know what a broom winder is a description of how it works? It looks like a nice, well made machine.

generaly known as a double jack
Here is a good description of single and double jack hammers along with some drilling tools and methods. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/fspubs/84232602/page01.htm
They are different from spike maul.

Keykeeper:
You wouldn't have a pic in that catalogue of the 200 1/2 would you?
If it's like the 202 in the pic mine doesn't take a flywheel. It'd sure save me the trouble of making a mold of one for next summer's iron pour.
Thanks,
Frosty
Hey Frosty, I have a 200 1/2 and can give you measurements of your part if I have it. Mine was set up on a line shaft with a flat belt drive pulley and an idle pulley next to it. Also has provision for a hand crank on the right side but alas I do not have it.
I can not view the catalog picture keykeeper posted so am not sure of the flywheel you mentioned?
Rob -
I am sorry to hear that. Our best wishes and prayers for you.

What is the scrap value per ton where the hammers are located, that with the weight will set the price? I hope someone close to them is able to strike while the iron is hot as macbruce said.

I finally got this project completed thanks to all of the advice offered above.
I appreciate the help.
Don
You didn't tell us how you did it? Maybe a pic or two also would be nice. -
Again, I cannot bend it because the outside edges have to be sharp. I have a lincoln 255 square wave which maxes out at 315 amps (not sure without looking at it what % duty cycle). Wouldn't this be enough for 1/4" aluminum?
Since this is the first you said about having to have sharp outside corner welding is your best option, If you said that earlier I must have missed it. Just be sure that your torch is water cooled, that machine should be fine. You should do a practice piece first, the sharp corner you want might melt into the weld and you will end up with a round corner anyway.

Welding the piece you want is no problem, I would even say easy. It may warp a bit. My opinion is it is foolish to use the argon$ and filler rod$ to do the job. I think it is better to bend it out of one piece and just weld the corners.

I have seen several guys who have used an old granny low truck transmission for twisting. Shift gears to get more reduction for larger stock. It will keep your space looking "primative" also. Put your handcrank setup on the input and adapt the output to your square sizes.
Rob -
I would have the four sides bent up the 1 1/2" and just weld the short seams. You will use a lot of gas and rod to make those long welds and it will take some good preheat to be able to even tack it. Good luck.

I for one would like to know more about this, I have a 36v Hilti concrete drill that needs to have a battery rebuild. I think it's ni-cad but need to check.

generally high strength rebar and ( with an extra line down one side) or welding rebar (w on it) are much more controlled than "normal" rebar.
I love the stuff.

Sorry to not get back to you sooner. Had computer issues and have been off line for almost a week. Ian, I sent you my ph # in an email, if your still around here call me.

AMAZING, Thanks for that :) -
Is the metal pan cast iron or sheet steel? How big is the forge? 2 ft by 3 ft? I have seen some with a layer of firebrick to keep the metal from burning out.
