  1. The haft has a taper to match the taper of the hawk drift,so it's a friction fit that is very secure-Regards Butch
  2. When I made mine and I made quite a few,I would cut to size using a table saw, then use a 4 1/2" angle grinder to get the basic teardrop shape then finish onthe belt grinder.you need a taper to match the hawk drift-Regards Butch
  3. I like the blade shape, but yes the eye is upside down,a teardrop shape the point goes down, but you did good,be proud--Regards Butch:)
  4. Okay wiseguy as soon as I think of something I'll get you back:D
  5. Hi Rutterbush,I wondered what happened to you after Keenjunk I think it was,did you ever get your tirehammer built?:)
  6. Yes you will have to box it.I used I-beam and once you put the tire and and arms etc,it will surprise you how much it will twist,I had to box the sides and used expanding foam to quiet it..So tubing is the best choice, thicker the better----Regards Butch--whoops Looked at your pics and saw it was a hevle, but tubing is still better---
  7. Stu,I leave the drift in, put in the vise and use a piece of pipe to line the blade up.nanana my way is better--:DButch
  8. Beautiful as always Stu,youda hawkman fo sho:D
  9. The notches are filework on the front edge, vine and thorns-I used needlefiles before I tempered the edge----Thanks Butch

  11. Hi it's been quite a while since I posted on here,I have made many many of these,I drift the eyes out with a teardrop drift. Here,s one I did recently-16 oz.--Regards Butch
  12. Whitebear, the tirehammer is the way to go.A friend and I made the first 2 from a sketch from Ray Clontz. We had the basic tools chop saw, torch, welder but no bandsaw.I put less then $50 in mine and have made a few thousand with it.If you have good fab skills and are a decent welder you can build one.If you need pics and measurements let me know, mine is about seven years old and still going strong, not the best looking one but I could'nt do without it!All the Best-Butch
