  1. You will soon here a lot of people telling you to not use it and stay with the forklift anvil.  My thought is use it but always hit hot metal on it.  It is cast and the face will be alittle softer.  Yes it looks like a Vulcan or a badger.  With out knowing where it was found harder to get a make on it.

But other than not knowing names matter little.  Have fun with her and hit her a lot with hot metal and a hammer!!

    Cynthia is a good name!

  2. We are one month away from the Prairie Blacksmiths Association fall  conference at Trails and Rails Museum in Kearney NE.

Brent Baily will be our demonstrator and will be doing 15 minute projects ( things you can get done in fifteen minutes start to finish)

then he will be teaching a 2 day hammer class.  Conference is October 8-9 hammer class is 10 and 11th.  Brent will also be doing some power hammer work.  We will be having one member showing how to fix weld and draw out plowshares.

    Anyone welcome!!

  3. Figure out how to keep them both.  Look wise you will not find better.  It is always nice to have 2, you can put them at different heights for different work.  Each will offer there own specialties.  If you must have one use them both for a month or more and sell the. One you like the least.  But use only one at a time don't switch back and forth during the month.

  4. So are you wanting to know what to sell it for?? All depends on where you are.  Most of my vise were bought in the $20 to $45 range.  Most all ove them I have repaired and rebuilt.  Some places the $125 to $200 range is not uncommon.  Really depends on place and time, want and need.

  5. Have fun with the little own way you can they grow up with out you knowing it!!  If you are worried about that use olive oil or a cooking oil.   You being in Australia and a lot of us in the USA never being there we just want to make sure you are getting the right information.  You have a great group of smiths over there.  Look some of them up.

  6. It also looks like a Peter wright, a canedy, a Columbia, an acme, a well all the older vises at some point.  I have over 40 post vise and can't name a quarter of them.  Then you have to look at the fact is it all original??

That said you have a nice looking vise.
