  1. I could at some point weld a tab on for a table , and the contact wheel is mounted on an inch and a quarter cold rolled steel bar, and can be removed to put in a platen or smaller wheel, Thats the next step for this thing when i have time! Thanks for looking...:D
  2. You are right about the clutter! that is why I built the rack, I am not finished with it yet , I am going to add one more row for hammers and then fill in the rest of the space with tubes to hold hand tools and punches~! as far as the casters My shop is so small i have to be able to roll it out of the way to move around ... thanks for the comments!
  3. this grinder was made by trial and error , no plans , just some ideas in my head and some looks at a bader grinder a buddy has. took about 6 months of work, off and on, only parts bought were the wheels and bearings
  4. This is a tool rack I just made today. Took about 2 hours. most of the time was scrounging around my metal pile!:D

  7. I have also been fascinated by the golden ratio, there is also a gauge you can make to create spirals as well, here is the link to it fibbonacci there is a pdf there that you can use as a pattern to make it ... also check out the tool song lateralus, it has a lot of fibbonacci in it as well , the song is based on it
  8. hey guys , thought i would post a pic or two of my 2x72 belt grinder and my power hammer, the hammer I built in a class with Clay Spencer, the belt grinder I made from scrap I had, the idler wheel and drive wheel were bought from Beaumont the contact wheel is a 10 inch grizzly I had milled to accept some bearings,( A real cheap alternative, Think I had about 80 bucks in it.)

  13. well , my hand drifts are flat on the parallels, and rounded on the other sides just like in marks video, but the one i made for the power hammer was a little more rectangular and not so rounded, i wouldnt say it was like a slitter, maybe the geometry is wrong on the taper of it... will post some pics when i get some time, wont be soon though... gotta work this weekend
  14. hey doc , you mean this video here? mark sure is a talented cuss ~!~ when your on youtube, click on his name it will show you all the videos he has posted! thanks for reminding me about it...
  15. hehe, well grant, the hand drifts I made will do OK, but the one i made for my 50# tire hammer is somewhat too tall for the stroke and It doesn't drift the hole symmetrically, that's my fault of course . I am mainly wondering what others use for drifting the eye on a power hammer, also wondering about cheeking the out-sides of the hammer eye... thanks
  16. hey guys, I just spent a couple hours at the forge making two hammer eye drifts and some other hand toos. they came out ok but I also tried to make one for the power hammer, This did not work and i am not sure where to go from there. does anyone have experience making hammers with a power hammer? what tooling do you use and got any pics? any help would be appreciated Thanks a bunch

  22. I believe that means the wood is put into a vacuum chamber and then injected with an Epoxy resin , colors can be added as well in the process, but this "stabilizes" the wood to prevent cracking and deformation due to humidity and temperature changes. the knives look really nice too for sure!
  23. Curly, Google came up with this link for hawkins http://www.hawkinsknifemakingsupplies.com/ hope it helps :)
  24. you can buy a grounding strap at any radio shack or computer repair shop, and all it consists of is a wire with a comfortable velcro strap attached to you and the wire continuing to an alligator clip to attach to what you want to be grounded to... seems like a good way to fix the problem. I imagine you could make one with some stranded insulated copper wire?? here is an example of one ...
