according to my dad, who is a potter a green flame is a sign of running in reduction (which i always took as being better than an oxidizing flame correct me if i am wrong)

a few years back the first time i heard of these flat rate boxes they told me that there was no weight limit, i thought this was great, they said that you couldnt fit more than 70lbs in one anyway... so i mailed myself one full of lead... they dont like me in the post office anymore lol

ive done some welded maille, more butted maille than you could shake a crane at.. welded maille is part of how i got into bs in the first place. what i did was take an insulated firebrick and hollow it out and put a hole in the side. then i took a mapp torch and pointed it into the hole on the side. use a really heavy duty (prefferably cheap) set of needle nose pliers and use those as your tongs, pick up ring stick it in the "forge" get it a good orange color. dip into borax, put back into heat until it gets that butter look to it pull it out hold it where just the overlap is on the piece of plate (what i had at the time) and wack it with the hammer. drop into a bucket of water, 90% weld success rate on them, making the 5-lets was a little harder but once you got the hang of it it went pretty fast. helps if you preheat your plate because it will suck the heat outa the little rings really fast! i used bailing wire, close as you can buy to wrough iron wire. i tumbled the rings between initial welding and assembly to get rid of flux residue, made 1 shirt... it paid for my junker 4x4 lol

1ve got a 100amp buzz box, cant get 5/32" rod to hold a spark with it, 1/8" and 1/16" work well... my next box is going to be 220volt and 200 amp ;)

my dad has been in a wheel chair for about 17 years now, he worked for the first 10 or so as a cabinet maker, one man show pretty much, i think that your only limited to will and creativity when your in a wheel chair

its hard to weld thin sheet in one pass, most people when working with the thin stuff put a small weld skip a bit small weld like - - - - - all the way down the weld, work way around repeat process (filling in gaps a little at a time) over and over again until its completly welded, helps with heat buildup and usually looks pretty good hope this helps

anyone here know of a place to get steal cheap in central illinois. here in pekin we have one place and they mark it up to heck and gone, las night i paid 6.50 for a 20 foot piece of 3/16" hot rolled.. last time i bought some it was like 3.00 each! and thier selection isnt very good.. when my dad was my age there was a place around here that sold scrap steel (odd lots leftovers but usable stock) for a little over scrap... just about ready to pull out my hair.. thanks for any help Mike

blacksmith at the local sca group had a "loaner hammer" i think it weight 80lbs or something. you ask to borrow a hammer to set tent spikes he handed it over and laughed

i was helping dad clean out his garage today before finally getting to play with my new (home built) gas forge and found some things that reminded me of my favorite freebie to date, about 3 years ago i was working at a funeral home doing maintenence, they had thier creamatory rebuilt and they GAVE me all the extra materials, half a pallet of hard brick and 6 cases of soft brick, 8 GALLONS of refractory cement ( i had so forgotten about that when i ordered a pint of ITC a couple months ago to line my forge ) my poor little ranger was riding the axle the entire way home...
