I just got my copy of "The Anvil's Ring" and it has the conference schedule inside. Brian's demonstration is in tent 2 Thur July 19; 6-9 pm, Fri 1- 4 Pm & Sat 9-12 Am
I am sure Brian will be forging somewhere, but this is the demonstration schedule that has been set up.

Cool Thanks MO- I will contact Glenn and find out the cost so we know when to stop. This will be something that can travel to different events and help promote the site in the future.

The guy was using it to cut logs? Out here we use whats called a "chainsaw" on logs

Thanks Lyle, and thank you Brian for the invite to use your forging station for this.
Maybe we can do the photos each day when lunch break comes around. Or something like that. I am open to suggestions and what others think may work best. The last photo shoot I tried to put together on Saturday I think it was, in Memphis kind of got mixed up when Brian was offered a forging station and moved everything at the time the meet was planned. I had a group ready to go then everyone got scattered in the move. It was a comical mishap of sorts.

I was contacted by Glenn Recently and I guess somehow my name came up in putting together a group photo at the conference. So I would like to get some input from those who plan to attend and would like to get in the photo. I did this at the Memphis conference two years ago and we had mixed results. It is not easy to get everyone together at one time with all the activity going on.
So some ideas from people who want to participate in the group photo would be great, maybe some pre-planning will help make this run a little smoother.
I will be arriving in Rapid City on Wed July 18, so anyone that wants to join me for a cold beer will be able to find me there. I will be wearing my Iforgeiron shirt. You can pm me or post here to help plan and so I can get a head count.

We had an apprentice blow up a 14 inch blade sending fragments though his hard hat that he had placed in front of the saw. Never saw him with out the new hard had after that

I use a ''WATER MOP'' as shown by Brian Brazeal and Alfred Habermann, it does not put out too much water. Too much water is what causes most fire pots to crack.

I installed a trailer hitch on a minivan in trade for a wagon tire. It is a big one 6 inches wide by 1/2 inch thick. The installation was not easy, I had to use a hole saw to make access holes in the frame to instal the bolts, I broke 2 or three mandrels before I was done. Would have been easier to weld it on

Nice set of blocks, there is no beating the real deal. I overheard Jere Kirtpatric talking to Ed Brazeal about his set of blocks. He was telling Ed that he should have brought them to the Octoberfest to sell them. I asked Jere how much he wanted for them and he priced them near cost of a new set from Centraur. A bargain in my opinion, and he met me half way with delivery.

Shoo Goo works good. I glued a Redwood handle on a cleaver with it over 15 years ago. Let it dry 24 hrs and you are good to go

I heard they were made from wrecking balls also. I have a set and they sure are nice, they still have the shipping address written on them.

A friend of mine bought a Lincoln mig welder, took it home and fired it up and heard a loud noise from inside the machine. The fan had come loose, when he looked inside the was a tag that said "Assembled in Mexico." That was over 20 years ago.

. With flux core I have to work just to get welds that doen't require more time grinding than it's worth.

Do you switch the polarity when using flux core wire? Innershield wire is electrode -, mig wire is electrode +
You will not get good results if you are not running the right polarity for the electrode in use

I have the Idealarc 250, Lincoln SP 200, Lincoln Idealarc 300, Lincoln SA 200, Lincoln Ranger 8, Lincoln SP 100, Westinghouse Flexarc 200 amp, Thermalarc 130, I think that is everything I own right now. And I use them all. I use the best machine for the job.

There is an old vedio of Roy forging a Fro I think and he hits himself in the head twice when he misses a blow and hits the anvil- good rebound.

You can tinker with them to get them to run better. Sometimes a good cleaning and proper lube job is all you need. People will often put oil that is too heavy in them and that will make it hard to turn. They need a light oil like automatic transmission fluid. Look inside and see what kind of oil is in there. It does not need much oil just enough to get on the gears. They will just leak any excess oil out.
I will sometimes convince people that there is something wrong with an item to get them to lower the price. "OH man this thing is leaking oil bad" "Looks like new seals for sure" "This will cost a fortune to rebuild" Stuff like that will get some guys to come down on a price

I would go check it out, if it has good coast just ask if he could come down like 10 bucks- give him some kind of sob story like it cost me x amount of dollars in gas to get here or whatever make something up, just getting started, have to put 3 dogs through college.
If it does not turn free and coast then you have to explain to him that it needs work and get it for no more than $100 or just walk away.
Small electric blowers are easy to find and you do not have to sit there and crank it

What I see on the shipping cost is $65.44+$151.01=$216.45/55=3.935454545 Or $3.93/lb (I do not know where Phil is seeing $32.87 for shipping maybe I am missing something here)
And by the way I have a perfectly good anvil that I will sell for $3.93/lb x 84=$330.12 + shipping so the actual cost will be more per lb
