BP1032 Hand Forged Rivet
by Uri Hofi
Cutting the 3/8 inches OD steel to length
The end length of the rivet should be 1-3/4 inches
Normally for the head we calculate 1-1/2 the OD
But i want a bigger head so i calculated 2x the OD
2x 3/8 inches = 3/4 inches So, 1-3/4 +3/4 inches = 2 1/2 inches
The final cut length is 2-1/2 inches.
Debur on the belt.
The tool.
Is made out of 1045 steal quenched. The height is 1 3/4'' and u drill the hole with 3/8'' drill tap. All the way through and debur a bit and weld a light handle.
Heat with a rose bud.
Insert in the tool.
Forge the head.
The hammer is 5.2#. I use this heavy hammer for punching, slitting holes, and riveting. In this case 4 hit to finish the heading process.
The finished head.
Punch easy out and the rivet falls into the cooling water.
