BP1027 Twist 01
by Uri Hofi

Eight years ago I developed this twist that I forge from different size steel. And for different use, handles staircase, window railing, decorations, etc.

I will demonstrate three types of twists out of 1'' bar. This is the first twist

The steel 1'' x 12'' long square steel.

The twisting tool is heavy duty and adjustable up to 2'' steel.

The wood steam and the mallet with the steel handle to prevent the hammer marks when straightening

The bottom air hammer die with the stop pin on the right side and the calibration 1/2'' plate on the other side. I forge with the combination die on the wide side 2 inches.

Gas forge double burners that I developed.

Put the steel on the flat hanging 2'' out of the die, forge the steel to the 1/2'' calibration plate to get the right thickness, turn 90 degrees or a 1/4 turn and move the steel a 1/4'' beyond the swell. Forge again to the plate, turn another 1/4 turn move again a 1/4'' beyond the swell and forge again to the plate. By this you got three forging with the same thickness!!! You forge even from both sides to get the steel strait.

Straightening with the wooden mallet on the wooden ''anvil'' to prevent from marks and dings on the element.

The twisting process. We forged three forging ,on every one we twist a 1/4' turn. All together we do 3/4 turn or 270 degrees. If the heat is not even to get an even twist we use the water to cool the hot points. We will see it on twist 2.
