BP1024 Wax Lube
by Uri Hofi
Preparing the "soap" like wax or parafin with the scale-coke powder.
Place a handful of parafin pieces into a tin can. You can use parafin, candles, wax or any mixture of them.
Take a piece of thin cardboard and roll it into a cone and hold it in the vise.
Pour a mixture of powdered scale from the anvil and powdered charcoal or coal into the tin can containing the wax.
Heat the tin can only until the wax melts. Mix the wax, powdered scale and powdered charcoal/coal to get a uniform mixture.
Pour the mixture into the paper cone.
When the wax has cooled, open the cone and the parafin-wax with the powder is ready for use.
Per-heat the chisel, punch or drift just enough to melt the wax, and smear them with the waxed powder.
When the chisel and drift are ready (smeared with the wax powder) we are going to forge the hole.
First with the chisel from both sides.
Then with the drift from both sides.
After the first hole we do not have to heat the tools again because they will have enough heat from the hot steel to melt the waxed powder.
