sean_the_shoer Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'm a farrier, but moved to an area where I'm called a blacksmith. While I can make do with horseshoes, I'm only recently getting interested in my more artistic side and I'm not yet confident enough to call myself a blacksmith. Quote
Frosty Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Welcome aboard Sean, glad to have you. Farriers are probably the largest demographic of people getting (transferring?) into blacksmithing. You're at least as well represented as teenagers wanting to make a sword as a break in group. You already have the skills you need; forging knowledge, accuracy, feel for the material, tools and speed. All you need now are some ideas and tips on how to apply what you already know to a new direction. Same skills and tools, different job. Learning a new job is a piece of cake. Frosty Quote
Thomas Dean Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Howdy from East TEXAS!! and welcome to IFI! Wow, a FARRIER being called a BLACKSMITH!! now THAT's a switch! Do folks as you if you can make a rose or leaf or basket twist? Great to have you aboard. As Frosty stated, ya got the skills and tools now just make 'purdy things' with them;) Can't wait to see some of your work. Once again, welcome. Quote
sean_the_shoer Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks for the welcome... I haven't been asked to make much besides tacky horseshoe art, which I think my sensibility refuses to let me. When I get creative I'll post some pics. I don't really have a desire to get into swords/knives etc... mainly ornamental and some tools. Quote
