  1. Wow, Jim. Definitely some inspiration. I once rented an old farm house that had a revolution era grist mill on it. They eventually tore it down, but not before I crawled thru it and got to see all the intricacies. Ever since, I've grown obsessed with old machinery and water power. Do you ever give tours?
  2. I did not make this, but I do believe it was made in Ohio. My dream when I become rich is to buy a grist mill and have everything running off of a line shaft, OSHA be xxxxxx...
  3. I took this off a 5,000lb rotted Bliss punch press. It's got to weigh close to 300 lbs. Now what should I do with it?
  4. hello all... I recently attended a weekend course at Touchstone Center in PA and noticed their big mechanical hammer had some sort of oil finish to the main body of the hammer. I have an old camelback drill press and a homemade power hammer that would be extremely time consuming to dismantle and strip away the old paint. My question is what is the recipe for a finish like that? I live where it snows 8 out of 12 months and the fall and spring is very rainy. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions... Sean
  5. A buddy asked if I knew what kind of anvil this was... says 1 1 14 on foot, and 154 & inverted 2. On face is an X and patented solid anvil. Thanks, Sean
  6. Thanks for the welcome... I haven't been asked to make much besides tacky horseshoe art, which I think my sensibility refuses to let me. When I get creative I'll post some pics. I don't really have a desire to get into swords/knives etc... mainly ornamental and some tools.
  7. I'm a farrier, but moved to an area where I'm called a blacksmith. While I can make do with horseshoes, I'm only recently getting interested in my more artistic side and I'm not yet confident enough to call myself a blacksmith.
