Chef's/sushi knife

Featured Replies

Here is a knife I finally finished, a chef's or sushi type knife, blade is 1084, handle is sugar maple. The blade is chisel ground for a right hand (I think), it is flat ground on the bevel side and flat ground then slightly convexed on the other side. The sugar maple is gorgeous stuff. Comments and critique welcome.

Very cool, i like the dip in the edge hear the handle. Nice curve also.

Great job sam, way to finish. I'll pay for your doctor's visit. ;)

Well made, looks functional. Regular maple is usually bland compared
to exotic woods but when you get curly maple, aka tiger maple like
this it does all the difference in the look even function because
curly wood ( any kind) is much harder to split and not likely to fail.
Is that steel gonna rust if you leave water on it?

  • Author

Yes it is plain carbon steel so it will rust, but no biggie. It's not a problem if you take care and oil it after use.
