potential forge construction issue

hey all, so when building my first forge im using a 2 inch flange to connect the firepot to the tuyere. problem being that the flange is galvanized. is this one part going to be an issue, or will the potential fumes be negligable?

Negligible if you first fire up the beast outside and stay downwind from the smoke, or you could dip the flange in diluted muriatic acid bath (swimming pool acid) to remove the zinc. POUR ACID INTO WATER NOT WATER INTO ACID.

On edit: the zinc will be removed in a matter of minutes. Oh, it's a good idea to stand upwind from the acid bath because the pickle will generate strong fumes. ;)

STAY OUT OF THE FUMES no matter which way the wind direction.

Put the galvanized part into vinegar (acid) to remove the zinc. When it is finished, you can neutralize any remaining vinegar on the part with a baking soda and water solution if you wish, or rinse the part well with water.

Properly label the used vinegar so it can not mistaken for anything else, or kill the acid by neutralizing with baking soda and dispose of the solution in a safe manner.

Use vinegar, it'll take longer but it isn't hazardous and needs no special treatment to dispose of.
