DragonEagle
I know it's not blacksmithing, Per Se. It's not pretty either, and it's definitely not worth hardening. I cut it out of a piece of scrap mild just for the experience. I think I did alright tho considering my tools consist of a bench grinder, belt sander and a drill press. -Allen
cal-k
that looks real good considering your tools! i use a 4'' grinder, then files, then the pad or belt sander. now all you gotta do is fit some nice slab handles
Donnie
It appears to me you know what to do. Looks fine to me. Now get a piece of blade quality steel and have at it.
Rich Hale
That is really a nice pattern to trace onto knife steel. Ten series,,1080,1084, or 1095 are good and honest to work with. bp 0087 has the heat treat info you need.
Rob Browne
Like your style. Try it first on some easy material then move up. Now is the time to move up and make a real one like that one. Look forward to your results with the real thing :)
DragonEagle
Should probably mention that the pattern wasn't my own. I bought Jim Furgason's pattern E-Book, and I'm going through it one blade at a time. when I'm comfortable with that I'll try to design some of my own. Ecart
Look, I've been "playing around" with making knives for two years and don't have anything to show for it yet. I think you are doing OUTSTANDING! I have a book here that I plan to go through too. It's not a bad idea. It gets you started. I like the one in the pic. You could make a few, then modify it later into something that is solely yours. Eric
ThomasPowers
Do it on some "real" bladesteel and then if you get a good one you can go on and work on heat treating it; no need to waste all the time and consumables just on lowC stuff. Bentiron1946
Nice job! Now you got a first class letter opener.
tompdw
Nothing wrong with stock removal. You are working with metal doing something you enjoy I assume. Don't apologize.
