New Anvils

Featured Replies

Hey Guys, it's been a VERY long time since I've posted. Many things have changed in life. I'm looking to get back into smithing and looking for an anvil. I'd like to go with a brand new one  if possible and looking for suggestions. In the past I had looked at Fontanini anvils but I'm seeing now that doesn't look like an option anymore. Then I found Hollands and found they also closed. Anyone have any recommendations for something 250-450lbs? Let me know,

Thanks,

Adam

Would anyone have a recommendation on a large (250lb plus) anvil? I know there are quite a few options. Fontanini is the one I think I'd like but I can't find a contact so I assume they are done.

A quick search for Fontanini resulted in the following:

Perhaps you can find Steve Fontanini's site and contact him directly.

I'm a big fan of the Nimba Centurion (260#).

I'm pretty sure Jim was planning on doing at least one more run even though the net says he is temporarily closed.

If I were in the market for a big new anvil (and a Fontanini were unavailable), I'd probably consider a 180 kg/396 lb DTX anvil from Blacksmith Supply. The 260 lb anvil from Big Blu also looks good. Lyon Blade & Anvil has an interesting looking anvil in 220 and 457 pounds, but their website says they don't have any currently available.

You don't say where in the world you are, but if you're in Australia, I'd seriously consider a 180 kg/396 lb B&W anvil, which is very similar to the DTX.
