May 8, 20251 yr modular removable gate for agricultural land in the countryside hello I should make a gate to close the passage in an agricultural land. for economic reasons of transport I should make it modular like Meccano or instead of welding the doors I should bolt them and then screw them into the ground, they will transport it with a small jeep the land is in an impervious terrain any ideas to make it removable without welding thanks.
May 8, 20251 yr The one in the picture should do what you want just fine whether you buy one of make a copy. I'd maybe put angle braces on both sides of the gate posts but that might be over doing it. If you want it sturdier spiking the angle braces and gate posts to the ground will make a big difference and if you move it you can pull the stakes with a pry bar. Frosty The Lucky.
May 8, 20251 yr Author I wanted to make the welded pillars with hinges and the door upright and screw the door frame onto it. For transport reasons we cannot use a truck. We want to make the structure in pieces and then bring the various segments and bolt them together like Meccano. It is an isolated place with a path that we must block for safety reasons. Thank you. What material do you recommend? L-shaped profiles or tubular box section? Thank you. ?? https://www.vidaxl.it/e/vidaxl-cancello-da-giardino-in-acciaio-5-sbarre-115-300x90cm-argento/8719883769448.html?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19787829316&gbraid=0AAAAADRAcQqLm0T4nSxdXl2hab-reXg5f&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm7m
May 8, 20251 yr That's pretty simple. Build each leaf of the gate, bolted together. Bolt the hinges to the outside vertical posts matching the hinge halves bolted to the buried gate posts. Bolt the latch sides where the leaves meet. Frosty The Lucky.
May 9, 20251 yr Author thanks for the advice. I would like to make a telescopic tubular gate in order to reduce the bulk during transport and transport it by car. What do you think? What section of tube do you recommend? I will make the bars, I will flatten the pillars with recycled beams that I will find at the scrapyard. I could make the hinges with tube stumps and as pins I can use thin, thick and long bolts. What do you think about optimising costs? We don't have much money, we are like in the Wild West in my area. thanks https://steelandpipes.co.za/farm-gates/
May 9, 20251 yr Making it telescope is way too much work and expense. First you'd have to find tubing that telescopes and that's hard enough to do buying from a steel yard. The last time I made a telescoping tong rack I had to special order the tubing. Were I operating under your limitations I'd just bolt it all together on site. That way you can roll all the pieces up and strap them on top of your car. If you welded tabs to the tubing where they join another so tightening the bolt draws the pieces together tightly. You won't have to flatten the ends of the tubing and have a solid gate. If you're concerned someone might unbolt the gate then use a small punch and a hammer to pein the threads of the bolt where it exits the nut. You'll need to cut the nut or bolt to take it apart later of course but nobody will be getting through without bringing tools. Those type hinges work fine, just make sure they have enough clearance for the gate to open far enough. This is a good thing to test before taking it to the site. I posted the picture of the hinge I did to show the parts and an easy bolt together hinge. Frosty The Lucky.
May 9, 20251 yr If you are worried about someone unbolting it, use anti theft bolts. Maybe something lost in translation, but if you can get a jeep there why can you not get a truck there?
May 10, 20251 yr Author I have to do a DIY job, the truck costs I have to cut costs, the good idea was as he said. first I prepare the holes then I bury the posts pillars, then I assemble the gate and put it in place - Frosty, dismantle the various elements and then screw them, the problem is not that they steal, I have to create an obstacle, since it is abandoned at night they dump the waste there, there are limitations on the waste issue, to save people and deliver it to authorized landfills and pay they abandon the waste at night in isolated places. The problem is not thefts today with cordless grinders and cordless drills in 10 minutes they cut the door off the hinges thanks anyway I'll think about it.
May 10, 20251 yr If the litter bugs are going to bring cordless grinders and cut the gate it gets much harder to keep them out. How much do you want to spend on anti-break in devices? Can you have them arrested and prosecuted if you can identify them? If so a motion sensor game camera might be much better. Catch them in the act with video or photo evidence and turn them in. Make THEM pay to pick their garbage up and take it to the dump AND pay the fines for littering. I REALLY dislike illegal dumpers, our driveway looks like a side road from the main road and people used to dump garbage on our driveway. The worst were dead freezers, it costs quite a bit to take a freezer or refrigerator to the dump. Supposedly to remove the freon even though no heat pump appliance has used freon in 30 years the dump still charges. Anyway, finding a freezer full of rotting food dumped in the driveway made me very happy I'd borrowed a game camera from a friend. Here the fine for littering is $1,000 USD plus the cost of removing and disposing of what they dumped. The real trick is finding what department is SUPPOSED to enforce the law and getting them to do the job. Funny how a human interest piece on the nightly news works. Unfortunately I didn't even get reimbursed for the dump charges I had to pay to get rid of the thing. Word got out though and I haven't had trash in my driveway in a few years now. Frosty The Lucky.
May 11, 20251 yr Author basically the land was on a hill in a desolate peripheral area, to close the passage we put 2 wooden sleepers and a steel cable at the ends to block the passage. well they stole the steel cable, stolen perhaps to use it as a vehicle towing cable and inside they deposited several piles of rubble, debris and construction waste, they certainly cleaned up some restoration or renovation site of an old building. moral we had to rent a small tipper truck and a small bobcat type mini-loader, the cleanup was very expensive for our small pockets, now to plug the gap we would like to use the wooden poles as pillars and maybe those iron carpentry pipes that they use for scaffolding and scaffolding which I think are sturdy and suitable thanks again for your valuable suggestions thanks
May 11, 20251 yr Then build a gate. If nobody is going to watch then the bad guys can do what they want. Maybe steal the gate while dumping their trash. I don't know how to stop bad guys if I can't catch them in the act and the authorities won't punish them. Frosty The Lucky.
May 11, 20251 yr Angiolino. I believe I am missing some of your unique requirements; however, a friend of mine has had similar issues on a large tract of very rural land. He built something similar to these. Some were of wood posts, some of scrap metal, some of trees that he needed to clear. It was successful deterring trespassing vehicles. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czech_hedgehog
May 11, 20251 yr Ooooh, that's a good suggestion! The real trick is making entering your property more work than just taking their trash to the dump. In other words, more trouble than it's worth. You can't drag or roll a hedgehog, chains just slip off the end as it starts to roll over. Frosty The Lucky.
May 11, 20251 yr Thanks Frosty. And you're right - make your place too much work and the trouble makers will move on.
May 11, 20251 yr Hey, it was a good suggestion, my scale for the things sort of stays at caltrop and that's probably a serious crime almost anywhere. My Sensei when I was practicing the martial arts told us early on day 1 of classes. "You don't have to be the toughest person on the street, just tougher than someone else." Criminals don't commit crimes because they like hard work, they do it because they're lazy. Unfortunately it's not easy thinking of ways to make it less work to do things right if you can't catch them. That's one reason I'm REALLY in favor of motion sensor surveillance cameras. Frosty The Lucky.
May 12, 20251 yr Author hedgehog??? they are not criminals they are poor people who to save the costs of delivery to the landfill load the truck and at the first light of dawn find a quiet place like a field to unload surely they were renovating an old house nearby they saw the abandoned and visibly hidden land and at night they unloaded they did not do it in a criminal way but as people who wanted to save time and money, usually they use the rivers to unload the rubble and bulky waste refrigerators washing machines or various debris. anyway thanks a piece along the road I put up some poles a fence and some metal mesh and I surrounded it the closure of the path passage is missing thanks again I'm going to the scrap dealer to find something to recycle thanks '' https://interestingengineering.com/videos/how-to-build-your-own-double-swinging-metal-gate
May 12, 20251 yr I thought you were asking help to stop people from dumping waste on your property illegally. Didn't they STEAL your cable? Doesn't that make them thieves? They KNOW they're breaking the law or they wouldn't hide their actions. People who do illegal things are committing a crime. People who commit crimes are by definition criminals. They aren't so poor they can't afford power tools to cut your locks off. You don't have to prosecute them, that's up to you. However if you're going to make excuses for them dumping their trash on your property and stealing from you then I don't know what I can do for you. Frosty The Lucky.
