January 17, 20242 yr It's been a long time since I've been here, I have some reading to catch up on. I present to you a video of my forging press, it is the 5th of this model that I have made Capacity 16T, motor 5hp, pump 11g/m. All parts are laser cut. My die collection also grows each time. presseV5.MOV
January 20, 20242 yr Author LOL,... no problem I can demonstrate something. But I assure you that making cigar ashtrays with a single heat is possible.
January 20, 20242 yr That "H" design is good for a 16 ton press - much the same design as the Coal Iron 9 ton press they sell as a 12 ton (they use a 3" cylinder at 2550 PSI). I changed the 3" cylinder to a 4" cylinder so I could get an honest 12 ton. I do like how your dies are held in- I think that is a good design. Looking forward to seeing the next video showing the die installation and pressing some hot metal. A very good job with the build.
March 12, 20242 yr Author @KenH here the dies setup. For the upper part, I replaced the quickpins with 1/2 bolts on which I welded butterfly wings. More economical and just as fast. (Not on the video). IMG_9348.MOV On 1/19/2024 at 4:01 PM, Frosty said: You didn't smoosh anything with it! I feel so unfulfilled. March 12, 20242 yr Yes you did! Happily I stopped smoking a couple + decades ago and think I can resist making one of my own. It does look pretty cool, industrial blacksmitherly combo. I like it. Frosty The Lucky.
