racer3j
While beyond my truly rough skills, somewhere I saw a tutorial on making tongs with an extraordinary, detailed set of jaws that portrayed a wolf's head. I have tried google and search here, but cannot find it. Assistance appreciated.mike Edited August 16, 2008 by racer3j comma
Arbalist
I can't help you Mike, but just so you don't think you're going nuts I've seen those tongs somewhere on the net as well! They looked pretty neat if memory serves. Vic.

Quenchcrack
I saw Bill Epps make a set animal head tongs. I wonder if it is in the Anvilfire iForge section?

racer3j
Nice detective work- I went to anvilfire to re-check but I was too focused on the wolf. I do believe that there is a literal wolf head tutorial out there. Thanks, mike Edited August 17, 2008 by racer3j
larrynjr
There was a thread on making a wolf head but not as part of tongs.http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/f7/wolf-head-6027/ No reason not to use that design for tongs though................. Quenchcrack
Bill published a series of books that show how to make various animal heads and other items. I am not sure where you can get them but Bill assured me they did not sell out yet. Sounds like a job for GoogleMan! OK, start here: http://smartflix.com/store/video/2247/Blacksmithing-Projects-With-Bill-Epps Edited August 17, 2008 by Quenchcrack
rthibeau
If the IForgeIron Store was back online, you could buy the books there.
racer3j
I am going to do some renting of DVD's. Mr. Epps has a great series available from them. I hope I can watch the rented ones and then buy for long term study. I appreciate the input here. It is good to see the interest in the artistic side of smithing. I think it would be great fun to make these and actually use them- would bring a grin to my face.mike

Michael
When I first saw this post I wondered if he meant the Brand Name Wolf Jaw tongs.Centaur Forge-Wolf's Jaw Tongs which to my knowledge have grooves cut in both axis of the jaws to allow holding of work in both directions. racer3j
No, I was asking about the tongs sculptured to portray a wolf. I am a rookie, but I know quality. That Glen feller is making some tongs based on what he believes I will need and enjoy.mike
