November 13, 20205 yr I've never seen this type of hammer before and wondered what would it be used for. Any help would be appreciated.

July 4, 20215 yr Having a good carpenter’s hammer around the house can be quite useful. I’ve never found one the be particularly useful at the forge though, so I don’t collect them like I do other hammers. I have considered buying cheap ones (cost, not quality) to forge weld the claws together to make a handled punch or chisel, but my project list is already too long… David
July 5, 20215 yr Thought about hardy but it's too nice looking hammer and handle is very comfortable just going in toolbag. Used today and it found its home.
July 5, 20215 yr I have a half dozen different claw hammers scattered all over the place. Always one near when I need it, which seems to be often. Old saying, "To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail".
July 5, 20215 yr Bob55, that looks like it was a top tool of some sort that would have been struck with another hammer. Possibly for dressing an edge, or creating a groove along an edge.
