June 16, 20196 yr Saw this for sale locally at a reasonable price - had a hunch it was something a bit special due to no pritchel hole etc. An hour after spotting it online, it was loaded from someones fathers shed into my van. I've only just gotten around to wire brushing it in the hope of finding some markings. Whilst it did take me a while or cleaning and searching, the old girl didnt dissapoint in showing me some ID, and confirmed what I already thought. A nice old C&A Mousehole, putting it between 1795-1820 accroding to Postman. It's seen some work and a little bit of abuse, but generally in good condition, and still has great rebound at around 90% or more. Just shows that there are some out there, and sometimes in least expected places. Also bears the mark 'BA' on the foot, which I assume to be an inspection mark. (I picked up the little 1 1/4 CWT John Brooks the same day)
June 16, 20196 yr Oooooh, late 18th, early 19th cent eh? That might meet Thomas's definition of antique anvil. I don't see anything that'd prevent me from putting her right to work. SWEET score! Frosty The Lucky.
June 16, 20196 yr Author Thanks guys. I'm pretty happy with that find, and think it's one that will stay in the collection for years to come.
