March 29, 20197 yr I have a new anvil and am a new blacksmith. My Hardy hole looks rough and I want to fix it but not sure exactly how. Any advice before I mess it up would be much appreciated.
March 29, 20197 yr You could try taking a file to it to true it up a bit. You'd be surprized how many anvils hardy holes are not true. I make my hardy tools to fit the hole in the anvil they will be used in.
March 29, 20197 yr Author Being so new I was afraid to. What kind of file would you recommend as a good set of files are on my shopping list. Thank you for the response!
March 29, 20197 yr Author Lol I searched for Hardy fixes, Hardy problems, thanks for posting this now I feel I can fix that darn Hardy hole.
March 29, 20197 yr Seems nobody's asked the important question. Do your bottom tools fit now? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Frosty The Lucky.
March 29, 20197 yr Author Thanks that was another thing I bought a cut off Hardy and no it didn't fit. I am worried about the cuts near the corners of the Hardy hole. I can ground the shank a bit to fit.
March 29, 20197 yr Large square rat tail files have rounded corners, use the most coarse that will cut, smooth and pretty doesn't count. Frosty The Lucky.
March 29, 20197 yr Hey Frosty, those rounded corners on the file will help to fillet the interal corners of the hardy, and help prevent stress fracture, no? Robert Taylor
