February 18, 20197 yr Yeah, that's what he'd tell you, it's running darned rich. File them in 1/32" increments then fire and take notes. You want to sneak up on neutral, once you've cut them back too far you have to replace the mig tips. (I've done that more than once!) Just be patient, you'll be able to hear when you're getting close, these things really ROAR, almost shriek even. Frosty The Lucky.
February 18, 20197 yr I have a similar problem on really small orifices im 3/8" and smaller size Mikey burners, and when I get close, I use sandpaper to move in on the perfect flame; when the going gets tough CHEAT LIKE CRAZY!
February 19, 20197 yr Author Ok guys so this is what I got done tonight the first pic is taking almost an 1/8 off of the tip then 5 secs after pic was taken it started to burn like this (2nd pic)
February 19, 20197 yr It looks like something got cleared out of the gas jets. The second photo shows a very hot flame. I think you have arrived!
February 19, 20197 yr Author And I thought I messed up lol thanks mikey know I have to finish the second tomorrow and seal the gaps between forge and burner thank you all for all the help will post pics of my future work out of this forge
February 19, 20197 yr Oh yeah, FLAME ON! You can see how the debris in the jet is disrupting the shape of the flame. Then it gets blown out and the flame becomes symmetrical and HOT. SWEET. Frosty The Lucky.
February 19, 20197 yr Author Awesome I really appreciate all the help guys I cant wait to share pics of the future projects I get to forge thanks to you guys
February 19, 20197 yr 28 minutes ago, Mwelder2018 said: and seal the gaps between forge and burner Don't seal them completely, or you may find your flames become reducing again. Most burners need SOME secondary air to complete combustion; not a lot, but some.
February 20, 20197 yr Author Reach forge welding temps tonight with both burners running awesome again thank you frosty and mikey for all the help.... What would be the easiest material to make my first blade from?
February 20, 20197 yr 2 hours ago, Mwelder2018 said: What would be the easiest material to make my first blade from? Are you offering me a straight line? I LOVE a good straight line and this is a real test. . . No comment. Did you try a forge weld or are you assuming? There are a lot of variables involved though the #1 three rules take care of almost all of them. I could weld at the color I see on my screen but digital cameras are notorious for making glowing things look brighter than they are. Looks good, have fun we'll be here when you run into problems. Frosty The Lucky.
February 20, 20197 yr Play-Doh would be the easiest..I'm sorry, couldn't resist. I think 5160 is pretty easy and you can usually find it in vehicle coil springs, if you don't have a supplier near by.
February 20, 20197 yr You haven't forget that you need to pile up hard bricks in a movable wall, about 1" away from the exhaust opening, have you? They are so much cheaper and easier to carry back to your garage than a bunch of refilled ($$$) propane cylinders ya know. You'l reach welding temperature with sooo much less fuel that way; just a thought...
February 20, 20197 yr Author No I haven't forgot about the bricks just didn't have them in the picture lol thanks iron dragon . Frosty yes I welded a couple of 16th gage saw blade pieces together
February 22, 20197 yr Author Ok guys new problem I thought I had welded the saw blades turned out I was wroung so I had my steel up to a yellow color and thought that would be wielding temp how can I tell if I'm reaching hot enough temp
