June 5, 200817 yr Just finished these this morning. I'm not punching the mounting holes until I get the hardware. Once I have the holes punched I will sandblast and paint one set for the customer that ordered them and the other I will oil and put on display. I have to forge the latch this afternoon. The top and botton hinge are 18 1/2" from pin center to tip and the middle hinge is 24 1/2" from pin center to tip. The pins are 1/2" and the hinges were made from 2" x 1/4" Flat stock. The barrels were rolled on the anvil. The customer was over last night and was very happy with them. I just thought I'd share. Let me know what you think. John
June 5, 200817 yr Very nice execution on those, John. Don't see how the customer could be anything but happy. -aaron
June 5, 200817 yr Really nicely done John! - post some pics after they're mounted at the customer's place if you can - it'd be great to see them in their new home!
June 5, 200817 yr Fantastic craftsmanship. Functional art, the best kind! Thanks for sharing and like the others, looking forward to seeing once installed.
June 5, 200817 yr Beautiful! That is a very classy job. And yes, please see if you can get some pics after they're mounted.... makes me either want to cry or go practice.
June 5, 200817 yr Well done John. Very consistent and nicely finished. I especially like the restraint you showed on the scrolls, they're well proportioned and balanced. Too many get carried away with scrolls to the point they distract from the real design. Frosty
June 5, 200817 yr Author Thanks everyone for the kind words. I will post pictures when they are installed. John
