Kimberley Russell
I am new to black smithing. I had one class and loved it. Now I have more time I'm trying to set up a forge to work on it again. I recently saw a smith at a Ren faire using a cast iron hibachi with legs and a hand crank blower to work on small jobs at the faire. I want to be mobile so I can travel. I am concerned the heat in the hibachi may not be hot enough. Has anyone tried this method?
Daswulf
If done right it should work fine and get plenty hot.
ThomasPowers
For a small area. Restrict your projects to the size your forge does well with and it will work great. I have seen a forge made from a cast iron skillet before! (Arts & Crafts Fair in Columbus Ohio along the river downtown, in the 1990's.) Glenn
Look at the thread JABOD Just a box of dirt. One example has sides that fit together for use and disassemble for storage of being moved. Dirt can be found in most places and does not need transported. (grin).

I always suggest this thread to get the best out of it. Btw: I have forged in a Hibachi, using a small hand bellows from my wood stove and lump charcoal. Kinda kept me busy but it was fun.
